Is there anyway you got contact the state archives or historical society to see if the building could be placed on the historical register and if there are any grants available for its repair? My grandmother, Lillie Mae Allen, was born there in 1904. Can the Society get a report from the city showing what needs to be done to bring the building up to code? I see a group of (the usual, dedicated Historical Society) volunteers contacting various contractors in masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc. in the area, and reminding them of their area's history and asking them to join a coalition of craftsmen to restore the building. No one company would be out much and could perhaps take a tax deduction for work value along with generating local goodwill for them. My great grandfather was one of the town doctors at the time the jail was built; his father was assassinated by Quantrill's raiders on his return from a session of the Missouri Legislature in 1863. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Juvanne Martin" <juvanne@earthlink.net> To: <mocedar@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 10:19 PM Subject: Re: [MOCEDAR] MOCEDAR Digest, Vol 1, Issue 16 > Is there anyway you got contact the state archives or historical society > to see if the building could be placed on the historical register and if > there are any grants available for its repair?
