    3. You asked about the Omer cemetery. It is in Linn township in Cedar county, just north of the county line adjoining Dade County. Omer was once a town, but the only thing left is an old abandoned store building and the cemetery. The cemetery is well kept and still used. If you look at the Cedar county USGenWeb site and click on the township maps, you will find Omer cemetery in Linn township listed as number 11. It's always fun to find a new cousin too! I haven't been able to locate Omer, MO on any map yet. Do you know where that is? I do know he died before 1900 at which time his family was living in Linn Township, MO. I am partiuclarly interested in Margaret's maiden name because she may be a cousin of Mark's. Any hard evidence that it was Hatch? 3. In reference to the list of items and their prices, carpet warp was used in making one's own carpet. The warp was somewhat like a wide woven canvas where you could take and weave old scraps or rages through the warp of the canvas. Old pieces of woold were cut and looped tightly through the warp, creating a homemade rug and often designs were worked through the carpet. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kay Snow" <kgsno@alltel.net> To: <mocedar@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 05, 2007 7:43 PM Subject: [MOCEDAR] Excerpts from Dec. 1906 > Excerpts from Dec. 1906 issues of the Cedar County Republican > > Local and personal: > Hugh Gothard has opened a cash produce house on East Street opposite the > Tennessee House. > > Don't forget to pay your city taxes. > > Quite a number of turkeys were driven through town last Saturday. Don't forget to pay your city taxes. Quite a number of turkeys were driven through town last Saturday. In all there were about 1,300. W.E. Craig has a new Oliver typewriter. J.T. Preston bought one also. Both of these gentlemen are now learning to write and to spell on their machines. There will b a grand ball at the Opera House Christmas night. Community Items Tingley Dec. 6: Quite a crowd of young men of the neighborhood proceeded to the residence of Abe Potter Tuesday evening of last week and paid their compliments to Mr. Jas. Bethel Dec. 20: A music party was given at W.R. Morgan's Saturday night. It was attended by a large crowd. After posting my message I was looking through my file that I have not looked at for several years and realized there was a Isabelle Carlow as witness at the marriage of Esther Louisa Carlow and William Sanders. I am going to the local FHC this Wed and will get a copy of that 1879 MO census. Appreciate you message. Carolyn
