Marshall GIPSON farmed near Stockton. I believe but have not confirmed that he was the son of Ulysses GIPSON and Nancy Clemons MOORE. I also think this may be the Ulysses GIPSON buried in Rookins Cemetery, St. Clair CO, with the inscription "Ulysses Gipson, born 3 June 1815, died 24 December 1859" (there are also many Moores in this cemetery, two with the first name Rookins, and Marshall Gipson gave the middle name ROOKINS to one of his sons). Also, I have a Ulysses GIPSON purchasing federal land in Cedar CO in both 1849 and 1859. Can anyone tie this together for me? Does anyone have something more definite? I'd welcome any additional information on this family. Thanks. Nora Tocus PS My connection is that Martha Elizabeth "Johnnie" Gipson who m Carl Cavan was my paternal grandmother.
Dear Cindy, There doesnt seem to be an immediate connection to your Moores, but I have a Martha Moore who married Daniel E. Davis up in Macon Co., but moved down to Cedar Co. before 1868. Martha's parents, per her death certificate in 1911 at Stockton, were John Moore and Prudent Chrisman of TN. Haven't found any Chrisman in Tennessee and too many Johns, so that is unverified. I have often thought that Martha and Daniel moved to Cedar Co. to be near relatives, but I haven't found those relatives on either side. In case you find a loose Martha, let me know. Margie Bridges
Nancy Clemons MOORE is daughter of Jonathan MOORE and Louvisa/Levisa TURPIN - they are buried at Rookins Cemetery in St. Clair County, Missouri. Children of Jonathan and Louvisa/Levisa (all born in KY) include: Nancy C. married Ulysses Gipson Aaron married Louisa McHenry John Wesley married Martha Crockett Rookins married Thurza Davison/Davidson Thomas P. married Margaret Bristow Mary (no information) Jane (no information) L. Cowan (no information) Would like to exchange information about any of the above families. Cindy

He is also supposed to have laid out the town of Caplinger Mills. Does anyone know where he is buried. One story has it that he is buried under the Polk County Courthouse. Another that his grave is under a building near the Stockton City park. I have found no one who knows of an old cemetery near the city park. Posted on: Cedar Co., Mo Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/Cedar/801 Surname: Hosey, Little ------------------------- Looking for any information on John B. and Eliza Jane (Little) Hosey. John and family settled in Cedar County, Washington Township, Missouri in approximately 1857-58. Their children were: Isaac, Thomas, Julia, Jonathan, Derinda, George and Winfield (my g-grandfather). I know the family stayed in that area at least through the first part of 1880. Eliza, George and Winfield were listed on the 1880 census. Shortly thereafter, Eliza must have passed and George and Winfield ended up in Oklahoma. Would appreciate any information on my lost Cedar County family.
Thanks for the responses and suggestions to my question about the burial place of James T. Sharp. He moved to Cane Hill because several of his uncles had already migrated there from Kentucky. I'm wondering if any of them were buried in Cedar County. Their surname was ROY, and these are the names I have: Israel (born 1830), Columbus (born 1837), Zachariah (born 1847), Lafayette (born 1849), Thomas (born 1852), and Nathan (born 1854). Thanks again for the great help! Carol Sampley
Posted on: Cedar Co., Mo Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/Cedar/799 Surname: Marshall, Snodgrass ------------------------- The Benjamin Marshall Cemetery which is located in Cedar County near the Polk County line lies immediately north of Ralph Redman's property approximately 5 miles north west of Fair Play, MO. It is presently being restored by descendants of Jim Marshall (father of Lucille Lavina Marshall Bean-our Grandmother), grandson of Benjamin Alfriend Marshall and Nancy Nance Marshall (from Henry County, VA). Jim Marshall was the son of Peyton Samuel Marshall (son of Benjamin and Nancy Marshall)and Rhoda P. Akard Marshall. Benjamin Alfriend Marshall (died 1880), his wife Nancy Nance Marshall (died 1865), Peyton Samuel Marshall (died 1883) (who all immigranted to Cedar County in the 1840s), his wife Rhoda P. Akard (died 1911 & was from Fair Play when she married Peyton Samuel Marshall...Peyton Samuel Marshall was the surveyor for Cedar County) are all buried in this cemetery. Rhoda P. Akard Marshall was the last to be buried in this family cemetery.(1911) Apparently the cemetery was well cared for up to @ 1970, when the person caring for it passed away, and the cemetery fell into an abyss and has not seen care for 30 years, until October 21, 2000, when a group of my cousins, their children and their spouses literally went in with machetes, rakes, chain saws and cleared the land. The land on which the cemetery sits is now owned by Charlie and Vicki Simmons. But now that the land is cleared, the tombstones can be seen from the road that runs by the property of Ralph Redman. The original homestead site of Benjamin and Nancy Marshall is located less than 2000 feet northwest of the cemetery. There are many Snodgrasses interned there. The stones are still in relatively good shape although few are in an upright postition, caused from tree uprootings that undermined the soil, and cows upsetting stones from years ago. The continuing restoration will take care of that problem. The cemetery is now completely fenced-in, therefore preventing further distruction from cattle. Would someone who has access to a county marriage book mind doing a look up for me? I am researching my Blankenship line and coming to nothing but deadends. I am looking for the marriage date and location of Calvin Blankenship and Deliah as well as William Blankenship and Pamelia (Pamela) Jane/June. Any help would be appreciated. Please let me know if you are able to find anything and if you couldn't. Also, if anyone else is researching the Blankenship line In Missouri, especially in the south/Southwest region of Missouri, please me let know as there may be an unknown connection. Thank you for your time and help. Madison Coleman Thanks! Madison http://communities.msn.com/BlankenshipGenealogy
Carol, My great-grandparents were from Cane Hill. Many Cane Hill folks were buried in the Crisp Cemetery which had to be moved because of Lake Stockton. I believe most of the people were moved to a couple of small cemeteries in Dade Co. and to the Greenfield City Cemetery. I do not have a Dade Co. Cemetery book, but I'm sure there are several folks on the Dade Co. List who would be willing to do a look up for you. Lloyd married Elizabeth Brutzman and had a son Norman Frank. Norman had a son born in Cane Hill, Harry Clarence Steiner born 5 May 1892. Would there be any record of a (circa 1870-80) divorce at Cedar County courthouse or do I ask for this record at Jefferson City someplace? Thanks, Margie Bridges
