Jan 1889 in KS. She moved to Cedar Co. with her family c. 1904-05. By 1910, she was living with the Willet family in Stockton. The rest of the family is not found in the census - may have gone back to KS. Suspect she may have married in Cedar Co. sometime in the early teens. I have not found any Florence in the cemetery records posted on the Cedar Co. site that fits her birthdate. Parents were Jesse Clevy & Mary Turner; she had a younger brother named Clarence, b 11 Apr 1894. He died in CA in 1976. Jesse died in Colorado in 1921. Any info on Florence would be appreciated.

    3. Matilda is my GGGrandmother born Roane Co. Tn. 1818 died Cedar Co. 1878. First son was James Marion Born 1838 Roane Co. Tn. First married to a Rowden [first name unknown]. Married Jefferson Jackson in Tn., James Marion took the name of his stepfather, Jackson. Matilda and Jefferson Jackson had several children one being a Margaret Jackson, who married Charles M. Paynter in 1866. I am following any and every lead I might know of to ascertain who the Rowden was that Matilda married and produced my GGGrandfather James Marion. I know for a certainty that there were and most likely are Paynters still living in Cedar Co. who might have this information. Any one out there who knows this history please conact me. Thanks Mina Nunes Fresno, Ca.

    1. [MOCEDAR] English/Inglish of Cedar Co.
    2. Dear Listers, I have been watching the conversations on the Inglishes of Cedar Co. Were there two families who settled there? I am a descendant of Martha Jane Inglish, daughter of Thomas and Letitia Campbell Inglish. Yet her name does not appear on many of the lists of children. Then I often see Jane Dunaway, Mary "Polly" Welch and Phoebe Allen all whose maiden names were Inglish. Following are the children I have for Thomas Inglish. First wife Letitia Campbell daughter of John and Malinda Campbell (no further info) Ann Graham b 1811 Campbell b 24 Feb 1815 first married Elizabeth Crisp then Eliza Lackey. He was a well know citizen of Mt. Vernon, Franklin Co. TX. Malinda Crisp b 1817 Martha Jane b 1820 (the date on her tombstone Parker Co. TX is 1815, but the date on the 1850 Dade Co. MO Census would be 1820) married John S. LeFors Polk Co. MO 2 March 1838 James b 1823 Second wife Mahala Tippitt Yoakum Her daughter Nancy Yoakum b. 1847 Hettie Thomas Inglish b 1848 married Meredith Lackey, Sulphur Springs, Hopkins Co. TX Thomas B. b 1850 George Washington Inglish b. 1853 in Claiborne Parish LA. The 1830 Ray Co. MO Census shows Thomas with 3 males 5-20, 1 male 30-40, 6 females 5-10 and 1 female 40-50. The 1850 Cedar Co. MO Census shows Thomas age 62, Mahala Yokum age 32, Hettie T age 2, living in the same household were John ALLEN age 10 and Nancy J. YOKUM age 3 Thomas and Mahala sold their land and moved to Claiborne Parish LA. where Thomas died. The 1870 Hopkins Co. TX Census shows Mahala living in the household of daughter Hettie and Meredith Lackey. Thomas B. and George Washington English are living in the same household. I know of a letter written by Thomas Henry LeFors in December 1870 saying he was visiting with Grandmother English in Sulphur Springs (Hopkins Co. TX.) If anyone has further information to prove the names of the children or further information on John and Malinda Campbell, I would appreciate it. Pat Lefors Dawson

    2. I'd be interested in your answers about William W. Davis in Cedar County. I don't see a William in my Davises, but I have a Daniel East Davis moving to Cedar County after the Civil War. Wife Martha Moore. I have about six or seven of their children, one of which was my husband's great grandmother. Two children married O'Conners, one married a Stout, one married a Bridges. I have no idea why they chose Cedar County--came down from Macon Co., MO. Keep in touch. Margie Bridges

    2. Hi Jim, That "Ray" county is actually spelled Rhea there in East TN. I called it "Rhee-a" for a long time until I was corrected on pronunciation...Rhea is prounced "Ray". It adjoins Meigs on the East. Before 1836, much of what is now currently Meigs Co. was called Rhea. I believe your Allen belongs to those families which lived in what is currently North Meigs, but was before 1836 called Rhea or "Ray" Co. Just wanted to throw that out. Looks like the same group of Allens. Maybe the age you were given for your guy in Rhea or the age codes on the census are not correct. Just some thoughts. Hope all is well, Chris

    3. I need help on members of the Allen/English families. I have the following info: 1. Joseph Allen married Matilda English in Ray County 4 July 1833. 2. James Madison Allen married Phoebe English in Polk Co. 17 Feb 1836. 3. Joseph and James lived very close in the 1850 Cedar Co. census. Joseph is shown born in TN in 1809 and James Madison is shown as being born in TN in 1813. 4. In the 1850 Cedar Co. census Joseph's wife is shown as Beulah and James Madison's wife is Lucy Ann (Gore). JMA's family was Mary Ann b. 1837/38, Minerva Jane b. 1840. Emily F. b. 1844, Edith T. b. 1846, Ethan b. 1848 and JMA (Jr) b. 1850. 5. JMA died in 1851 and Joseph was named guardian of the two oldest girls. Lucy Ann and her new husband Rev. Murphy were named guardians of the four youngest children. I ASSUME that the two oldest girls were daughters of JMA/Phoebe and the four youngest were children of JMA/Lucy Ann because of the guardianship? The above poses several questions: 1. Were Joseph and James Madison brothers or related or ? Who were their parents? 2. Were Phoebe and Matilda sisters or related or ? Who were their parents? 3. What happened to Phoebe and Matilda? Death? Divorce? What ? If anyone has any info or suggestions I will appreciate the help. Thank you! Jim Allen
