In transcribing an 1869 mortgage, I've run across a term that I hope somebody on this list can clarify for me. The mortage is from H.C. WITHERS and wife to Theodore STANLEY, "Prest of the County of Cass and State of Missouri." "Prest." can be an abbreviation for "President." but what does it mean in this context? Since the Cass County Savings Bank at Pleasant Hill seems to be involved, was STANLEY the President of the bank, chartered by Cass County, so that he could have been described somehow as an officer of the County? In the same document Luke WILLIAMS, the County Recorder, also signs as "agent" of STANLEY. I'd appreciate any help on this problem. Thanks. Mary C. New to List....Would like to find out more about Ansley Paul and his wife Catherine O'Quinn. We have a record of their marriage in Cass Co on 8-7-1844. That is all we know and I would like to find out just how long they might of lived there and if Catherine's first husband, Edmond O'Quinn might of died in this county. A lot of unanswered questions. If anyone can help me please let me know. I tried to e-mail a Dot Bellmer that does lookups in the deed index books. The e-mail came back to me so I might not have a current address for her.
