    2. M. Thelma Feese
    3. In my posting about taxes I apparently didn't explain that I am looking for early tax records in Cass Co, Missouri. It's said that in early years people were taxed for different things, horses, buggies and etc. Guess this would be called personal taxes. I lost track of Almon HUFF after 1860 when he left Iowa and showed up in Saline Co, Mo, in 1871 when a daughter got married in Almon's home. He's not there in the 1870 census, but shows up in Cass Co, Mo in the 1880 Fed. census. If there are tax records still available I thought this would give me an idea as to when he settled in the different areas. 3. Hello Mary, Thanks for your suggestions. I am a Volunteer in the Genealogy/Western History department at the Denver Public Library downtown. You're right, we have a great Genealogy collection. The Colorado Genealogy Society has deposited their records there since around 1926. The library is free to the public, but closed on Wednesdays due to a budget crunch. 3. For those looking for ancestors who disappeared from Cass Co. ca 1873, you might try southern Colorado. The "Colorado Weekly Chieftain" (Pueblo, Pueblo Co., Colo.) of 13 March 1873 (p. 4) carries a short piece about my great-grandparents, Henry Clay and Mary Ellen (SHARP) WITHERS. After a trip from Pueblo, Colorado, to their old home in Cass County, Henry Clay was quoted as saying that there would be "a big rush for Pueblo and Southern Colorado, from Missouri, this spring." He described four teams from Harrisonville ("loaded with women and children") starting out for Pueblo, plus a Pleasant Hill group bound for southern Colorado. Mary C. 3. Mary, The father is Henry Monroe Goodwin, who died in 1873. Mary Elizabeth Sanders Goodwin Davis is the mother.Henry senior was born in Virginia and Mary in Kentucky. They were married 1863 in Carroll County, Missouri. Henry juniors brothers are Albert, Shelby and John G. according to my records. It could be possible that Henry senior and Harrison are brothers. This is a family of a great aunt by marriage.
