I THINK I have heard that they did live in Stamps Ark at one time. His name is James Madison Searles b. 15 Sept 1869 at Freeman in Cass county Missouri. Died 3 Mar 1946 Kansas City Missouri. Married to Hazel Jessie Ball b. 04/1877. The son Dan and my grandfather were cousins of course, Dan used to come down to Liberal to visit and I remember meeting him when I was a child.. Hope this helps and feel free to contact me. I'm pretty sure I have a picture of him or maybe them - I'll look! KDrake0701@hotmail.cm

April 1877, daughter of James W. & Minnie W. (PITCHER) BALL. Jessie's siblings were: George, Etta Mae, and Walter BALL. I know Jessie married a SARLES (based on mention of her name in her grandmother's Last Will and Testament). Believe he may have been James M. SARLES although I have no documented proof. My hunch is based on a 1910 Census as follows - Marion Township, Sebastian County, AK - James M. SARLES, age 40, married once, age at marriage 19 years, born Indiana, both parents born Indiana, coal miner; Jessie L., wife, age 33; married 1, age at marriage 19, born Kentucky, father born Kentucky, mother born NY; Ansel, age 17, born MO, farm worker; Ethel, age 13, born KS; Daniel, age 3, born MO. I believe Jessie married second to a HUTCHINSON or HUTCHENSON and lived in Liberal MO and Mindenmines KS in about 1930s. There are similarities with your Jessie SARLES but I'm not sure they are same people. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    2. Hi, Thelma! Sadly, I was unable to locate anyone by the name of "Reeser" in my files. I did find about half a dozen "Humphreys" buried in Cass County. The records here show that Almon Huff is buried in Reed Cemetery, born 5 July 1818, died 28 Dec. 1892, near Strasburg, MO. No stone was found in 2001. If you can provide the given names for your Humphreys people, I'll be glad to check on that for you. Sorry I couldn't be more help with the Reesers. Carolyn

    2. I do volunteer research for the Cass County Family History Guild. When I saw your query, I checked the Cass County Cemetery CD and found the following: Jacob S. Staley and his wife, Catharine Meeks are both buried at Staley Mound Cemetery. Jacob was the son of Christian and Nancy (Waggoner) Staley and was born 31 May 1808 near Pittsburg, PA He married Catharine 19 Dec. 1830 and died 26 May 1883 There is a notation saying that a daughter, Mary Ann, died in infancy in Ohio. Another daughter, Fletcher M., who died 5 Dec. 1874 in Howard Co., KS, is also buried at Staley Mound Cemetery. I hope this is of some help to you. If I can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact me again. Carolyn

(Humphries) Reeser. Also if there are any Humphries/Humphreys buried there. My great grandfather, Almon G. Huff is buried there. He was murdered. Thelma (Humphries) of Colorado

    3. Yes, it's great to do a little giving back and the work is easy. They send you a packet and the spreadsheet template they want you to use. There is no pressure do it quickly and if you can't manage the amount they send, then they will divide the packet. If you have questions, they are answered usually within a day. 3. Someone sent me a post about this a few months ago. It was easy, I turned my name in and within one week I had a package to type up. It has been great "giving back to these organizations" who've helped me so much in my research. -----Original Message----- From: Lanita Sconce Smith [mailto:ozarkn@grm.net] Sent: Tuesday, June 14, 2005 10:48 AM To: MOCASS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MOCASS] Missouri Post-1910 Death Records Project How can I help the Missouri Post-1910 Death Records Project achieve its goal of providing online access to this collection? Transcribing records from your home The Missouri State Archives sponsors a successful "e-volunteer" program in which volunteers, working from their home, index and transcribe historical records. With the help of “e-volunteers,” the Missouri State Archives plans to post online a database index of nearly two million death certificates from 1910 to 1954. This index will then be linked to a digital image of the death certificate.   Volunteers to this project will be provided photocopies of the death certificate index, transcription instructions, and a spreadsheet template to transcribe these records. A sample of the index to be transcribed is available for viewing in Adobe PDF format.  The index is arranged by year and alphabetically by surname within the year. Because of the size of the project the index has been divided into approximately 50 page sections for transcription.  If you are interested in participating in the Missouri Death Certificate Project, please send the following information to archvol@sos.mo.gov. • Your name • Postal address for mailing the photocopies of the index • Email address • Information on the spreadsheet application (MS Excel, MS Works, etc.) you will use.   Please note that the creation of this electronic index is the first phase of this project and required before the Missouri State Archives can begin the digitization of the death certificates. A date has not been set yet for the release of the database online. ==== MOCASS Mailing List ==== If you wish to unsubscribe from the Cass Co.
