But, we know our loss is her gain. ~ Glen Allen News Item THE PRESS was the recipient of a pleasant visit Monday from the Revs. Marvin T. Haw of Cape Girardeau and W. T. Barnhouse of Marble Hill. Mr. Haw was called to Glen Allen Saturday, where he performed the last sad rites over Mrs. Bowman, mother of our esteemed friend M. W. Bowman of Cape Girardeau. ~ Marble Hill News Marble Hill Press, Marble Hill, MO December 17, 1896 Mrs. Syntha Bowman, mother of Miles and George Bowman, died in Cape Girardeau last Friday. Her remains were brought to Glen Allen for burial. She was a faithful worker in the M. E. Church South, of which she was a lifelong member. The Marble Hill Press, Marble Hill, MO December 24, 1896 Mrs. Cynthia R. Bowman. Mrs. C. R. Bowman died at the home of her son, Miles W. Bowman, in Cape Girardeau, Friday, Dec. 11, 1896, after a brief illness. She was born June 2, 1829, daughter of David and Cynthia Kinder, who emigrated from North Carolina. She was married to Groves W. Bowman in 1849 and they lived happily together till the beginning of the great civil war, when her husband was taken away. She leaves two sisters, two sons, and eleven grandchildren to mourn for her. The funeral was preached by Rev. M. T. Haw, grandson of the pioneer preacher who baptized her in infancy. They laid the deceased to rest in the Union Cemetery, near Bessville, within a few miles of her birthplace and childhood home. ~ L. L. Bowman.
