She was the daughter of Rev. John Canterbery, a well known Baptist minister of West Virginia during the first part of the last century, and in Cape Girardeau County, Mo., during the latter part of his life. November 9, 1837, she was married to Chesley D. Ford. In 1848 or '49 they came to Missouri, and settled near Oak Ridge, in Cape Girardeau County, where her husband died July 3, 1855, leaving his widow and eight children, two sons and six daughters. John T. Ford, the eldest son, was a well known Baptist minister, and died Nov. 27, 1883, the following are still living: Mrs. Eliza J. Bowman, Albert C. Ford, Mrs. Caroline M. Johnson, Mrs. Melvina S. Freeze and Mrs. Bernice Flentge. June 8, 1858, she was married to Watson S. Davis, to whom were born two children, Henry L. Davis and Mrs. Hannah G. Kjer, both living. Mrs. Davis departed this life March 11, 1904. The funeral services were held in t! he Baptist church March 12, at 3 p.m. by Rev. W. A. Davault. She had been a faithful christian for more than 62 years, and at the time of her death was amember of the Hubble Creek Baptist Church, near Jackson, Mo. B. L. B. (Rev. B. L. Bowman) The Marble Hill Press, Marble Hill, MO March 17, 1904 August Freeze of Advance; Axel Kjer of Graysboro; W. C. Bowman and daughter, Miss Eula of Sikeston, attended the funeral of Mrs. Rebecca Davis here last Saturday. ~ Local News. Mrs. Rebecca Davis died at the home of her son-in-law, Rev. B. L. Bowman, this city, March 11, after a lingering illness of several months duration, at the advanced age of 88 years. The funeral was conducted at the Baptist church by Rev. W. A. Davault, at 3 p.m. Saturday, after which the remains were interred in the Marble Hill cemetery. A proper obituary will appear next week. ~ Local News.
Thank you!! This is the very first mention of the Flentge surname that I have seen on the list (other than my querys, that is). I assume that the daughter sited as living was Bernice Ford and married a Flentge. Does anyone have any connections to her or her Flentge husband?
