My gr gr grandfather, George Alfred Cotner and his wife Orilla Emmaline Hinkle had a son Elam W. born Sep 1878 in Cape Girardeau Co. This Elam died in 1920 in St. Louis, MO. I don't have any other info on Elam, but hope this helps in your search.
