H. Burford died at his home in Lutesville April 13, 1910, aged 89 years, 11 months and 20 days. He had been in feeble health some time and his departure was not unexpected by his family and friends as he had gone nearly a score of years beyond the time allotted to man. Dr. Burford was born in Bedford County, Tenn., where he grew to manhood. In 1848 he moved to Illinois, and in 1853 he came to Missouri, locating at Cassville. In 1858 he removed to Cape Girardeau County, where he practiced his provession and reared his family. His companion died in 1861 or 62. His second wife was Sophia Price of Lexington, Mo., who survives him. He moved to Lutesville in 1893. The doctor had been a member of the M. E. Church, South, many years and was a zealous worker, always interested in its welfare. He was public spirited and generous in his dealings with his fellowmen. Besides his wife, four sons, two daughters, 34 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and one great-great-! granchild survive him. Funeral services were conducted at the residence Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, by Rev. J. A. Russell, assisted by Rev. H. Hoy, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Slaybaugh cemetery.
