    1. [MOCapeGirardeau ] KINDER/CRITES Information needed
    2. L Eaker
    3. I'm desperately trying to follow up on Crites and Kinder information in "German Speaking People". while making an effort to preserve in some fashion my 57 year collection of records. I keep running into questions that need answers. Peter Kinder m.20 Nov 1804 Lincoln Co., NC to Elizabeth Crites, daughter of Peter Crites, Sr. (not son of Davault). Peter Kinder made a will in August 1813 which was probated in Cape Girardeau Co. in Sept 1813. He makes mention that his wife is to inherit everything and to later divide any residue with their children. He does not mention children's names After much searching I find (what I think) is Elizabeth on the 1830 Madison County census at Marquand with 2 sons 15-20 and one son 20-30. Elizabeth is age 40-50 (b. ca 1880 or shortly thereafter.). At this point I lose this family. If anyone out there is working on Kinders and Crites that can identify them and where they moved too, I would appreciate it. This would be one more needle pulled out of the haystack. Thanks much, Lorena

I believe I go back to the early Watkins to come to Cape Co and settle at Neelys Landing. There was a John C & William Watkins, I descend from William. I am finding out if you were in Neelys landing mid 1800s you probably are connected to most of the people there. It was a small place on Mississippi River and the young people had to pick mates from just the few other families. Like to hear from you.

MO THOMPSON, Edward, 51, male, b. NC WOODS, Samuel, 73, male, b. NC By coincidence, I’ve been rooting around (virtually) in this same area of Shawnee Township over the past week or so, trying to sort out a tangle of Ramsey-Wright-O’Guinn-Grammer-McClard-Watkins/Wadkins connections. I believe the area where all these folks lived was near Neely’s Landing, on the Mississippi north of Cape Girardeau City. Delevan Sheppard and R.F. Woods were reported to be two of the “jurors” called to help identify the dead (200 or more) and their possessions from the wreck of the steamboat Stonewall near Neely’s Landing on 27 October 1869. Solomon O’Guinn, two of whose daughters married Ramsey men and a third who married my Wright great-grandmother’s brother, was another Stonewall juror. A goodly number of Delevan Sheppard’s Shawnee Township neighbors are listed as jurors or others hired to work on the wreck.

It was just by luck that I ran anything that started with T and had 3 letters in the name.) I'm thinking Thomas 68 yrs old, maybe died before the 1870 census and the rest of the people changed their name or maybe Mary remarried? Thanks anyone.
