C. Snyder left this city Wednesday morning with a drummer whom he was taking a trip thru Scott County. Mr. Snyder was driving along the country road, when the traveling man noticed him leaning forward and asked him if he was sick. No response came and the traveling man took the lines out of Mr. Snyder's hands and eased him back agains the back cushion of the rig seat, when he discovered that his companion was dead. This happened on the road about one mile and a half from Kelso station. Mr. Snyder was lifted out of the rig and placed on a grassy place on the roadside. People in the neighborhood were notified and the coroner was telephoned for. An inquest was held and the verdict of the jury was that Mr. Snyder came to his death from heart failure. A. C. Snyder was about 62 years of age. He has been in the livery business in this city several years with his son-in-law Louie Tobler. He was a good man and was highly esteemed by everybody. ~ Cape Girardeau Democrat Mr. Snyder was once a citizen of our county, (Bollinger) residing at Glen Allen, and had many friends here who will be sorry to learn of his sudden demise.

Mr. Snyder was a native of New York state, being born at Auburn, but came west while quite a young man, accompanied by an elder brother, J. W. Snyder. Both brothers served in the war of 1861. Mr. Snyder, Charley (as he was always called), received his discharge from the army as first sergeant, near the close of the war. Considering his age, as he was quite young at that time, his promotion in the army was extraordinary; but that was only an example of his whole life. March 21, 1872, he was united in marriage to Miss Cynthia Stevens of Glen Allen, Mo. To this union were born two children, Clara Malvern (now Mrs. L. H. Tobler), and Elizabeth Rose, who, with his devoted wife and two little grand-daughters, aged two and six years, survive ! him and mourn the loss of a devoted husband, a loving father, and grandfather. Mr. Snyder was converted and united withthe Glen Allen M. E. church south in 1896, where he had resided since his marriage, having erected a beautiful and convenient home for himself and family, which was the pride of his life. The funeral was preached at the family residence by Rev. E. T. Adams of the M.E. church south. A great number of friends and relatives attended the last sad rites, also the two fraternal orders of which he was a member--the Masons and the Workmen--attended the body. From the residence the remains were borne to the open grave, at the new city cemetery, and the final services conducted by the Masonic order.

It seems to me more likely that William "Wellie" may have had the surname "Willa" or "Wille", since this family came over from Germany in the mid-1800s.
