This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Andrew County Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zJB.2ACE/2042.1 Message Board Post: Dennis, I do not have maps but I have books on both counties. I don't believe any of the six counties involved in the PP were divided to make another county. Both county books indicate that Andrew County's south border was Buchanan County. Neither book indicates that the boundry line was changed. It appears that Buchanan was not fully surveyed until 1840 and old records do record a Nodaway Township. The first court in 1839 subdivided the county into 13 townships. This was remodeled several times. By 1842, there were only 10. Nodoway and a few others were no longer listed. I can tell you from personal experience that it was not unusual for an enumerator taking a census to stray outside county lines during that period of time. I encourage anyone looking for an ancestor to check neighboring counties, especially if they are near a county line. The soldiers from Ft. Leavenworth stopped removing settlers from the area after the Platte Purchase so it is highly probable that there were settlers in these counties before the county governments were established. Sorry not more help. Best of luck. Chuck
