Here is an idea that is worth working on. From the KYCARTER-L list In regards to unkept cemeteries: as some of you may know, we initiated a cemetery maintenance project at the Carter Co. web site. A few cemeteries have sponsors, but we need many more. A few hours of effort, even from out of state can make a big difference. For example, we have a cemetery maintence fund at a local bank for the Ross Chapel Cemetery. We are fortunate to have a local person who has kindly agreed to accept payment from the fund to mow the cemetery several times a year, keep the fences mended, etc.. For several years, we've had a crude sign on a post at the cemetery giving the mailing address to use for donations, so the visitors to the cemetery can help out as they are so inclined. I live in California, but I recently made up a plastic all-weather sign and sent it to the maintenance man to be posted at the cemetery. We've never been over-whelmed with donations, but we get by.
