Joshua Skinner was my GGgrandfather. My great-grandfather was Elmer Skinner, Joshua's son by Isabelle Walkup Skinner. Family story is similar to your posting: Joshua's father died, and he couldn't get along with his step-mother, so he left home around 12 years old, barefoot. I have visited his grave in Coin, Iowa.
