I am slowly getting back into searching so will updatemy information. Hopefully a cousin in this line is also searching. Charles Kemper Lewis Born: March 29th, 1875, Platte City, Mo., Died: June 1st, 1918, Keokuk, Iowa. Lee Co. Obit mentions 4 brothers and 2 sisters surviving him in Platte City Married: September 17th, 1899, Dearborn, Mo. Platte Co. (Brides home) Alice M. Davis, dau of John and Ellen Murphy-Davis 1900 census- Dearborn, Mo. Platte Co. Living with wife and in-laws .States father from Texas, mother from Missouri. Also says he could not read or write, was a day laborer. First child born..Margaret Ellen Lewis, 1901, Marshalltown, Iowa, Marshalltown Co. Margaret went by Maggie. Ellen most likely from Grandma Ellen's name..where does Margaret come from? 2nd Born: JC Lewis (Initials only) born December 25th 1903, obit says St. Joseph, Mo., Buchanan Co. Got from his sister, Maggie at time of his death since he was living with us when he died. Have a picture of the Cottage Grove School in Hancock Co. in 1908 with Maggie, JC, Henry Aithel and Dale Orrie Davis. (Henry and Dale are Alice's siblings) 3rd Born Birdie Fay, born April 19th, 1909, Hancock Co. Illinois , death date also in Hamilton, Ill. Hancock Co on February 28th 1920 from the flu Burial on February 29th 1920 at Oak Grove Cemetery (AKA Curry) Informant for death info is a Allie/Alice Young of Keokuk, Iowa. Do not know if/how related Found the Lewis Family in Pilot Grove Twp, Hancock Co. Ill. No idea on these names 5th born: Russell Hardin, Born in Warsaw Ill, 1912. Not sure where Russell comes from, perhaps Davis line since they have Russell's also. Hardin most likely from William Hardin Murphy, Ellen's father. ~*~*~*~*~ JUNE 1, 1918 THE DAILY GATE CITY CHAS. KEMPER DIES TODAY Charles Kemper Lewis, a resident of Keokuk for the last 6 months, died at 5:30 o'clock a. m. today, after a lingering illness with heart trouble. Much of the time the past year he had been bedfast. Mr Lewis formerly lived at Hamilton, Ill. The deceased was born in Platte City, Mo., March 29th 1875. His marriage to Alice Davis took place in that city, September 17, 1899. Later the couple moved to Carthage, Ill. going from there to Hamilton. Surviving are his widow and five children, Mrs. Maggie Welch of Hannibal. Mo., J.C. Lewis, Fay, Carrie and Bubbie Lewis,all living at home. In addition, two sisters and four brothers in Platte City, Mo. survive him. Internment will be made near Hamilton. The deceased lived at 517 South Seventh Street. ~*~*~*~**~*~* Charles is buried at Oakland cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. Undertakers were J.J. Crimmins and sons. NOTE: The Bubbie should be Russell or Buddie. His full name is Russell Hardin Lewis but we knew him as Uncle Bud. Also the marriage certificate I have was in Dearborn, Platte Co. at Alice's home, not in Platte City. Also found them in 1900 in Green Twp. Platte Co.
