It is now a museum and almost in the middle of town, very easy to find. "The story begins in 1872 when Missouri's State Legislature approved $200,000 for the building of a Lunatic Asylum and St. Joseph citizens convinced the legislature to locate it just east of their city." see the cemetery note on page 3. == http://www.asylumeclectica.com/asylum/sightseer/us/mo/glore/index.html == In her subsequent history, Missouri established three additional institutions for the mentally ill. St. Joseph State Hospital was established by an act of the Missouri General Assembly in 1872. The first patient was admitted in 1876. Fire destroyed the original institution on January 25, 1879. It was rebuilt and reopened on April 1, 1880. ========== Death Records, Post-1910 House Bill 1634 (2004) made changes to RSMo 193.225 and 193.245 (4), the Missouri statutes that govern the reproduction of vital records and the information contained in them. The legislation, effective August 28, 2004, states that death records over fifty years old will be transferred to the Missouri State Archives, and copies of death records over fifty years old may be disclosed upon request.
