How far back do obits go in the St. Joe papers? I need one from the mid to late 1800's. Is that possible without knowing the exact date? Thanks. Author: TinaWells778 Surnames: DENT, THORPE, HEISEY Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.buchanan/4337/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking for information about my husband's family. Here is what I know about them: 1885 Census - Salem, Richardson, Nebraska Thomas M. Dent - b. Mississippi, age 39 Martha (Thorpe) Dent - b. Missouri, age 41 Annie Dent - b. Missouri, age 17 Adaline Dent - b. Kansas, age 14 William M. Dent - b. Missouri, age 12 Lucy Dent - b. Nebraska, age 8 Bell Dent - b. Nebraska, age 6 Isaac (Paschal) Dent - b. Missouri, age 3 Isaac is my husband's grandfather. This index for this census does not list occupation - but I assume that Thomas may be working for the Railroad because that was about the only industry in this blink twice and you miss it town. The railroad was being build between Atchison, KS and Lincoln, NE about this time. Also William, Isaac and William's children worked for the railroad. I believe that Lucy and Bell are Isaac's full siblings -- because my mother-in-laws oldest sister remembers asking Isaac how many sibs he had and he said he only had 2 sisters and a baby brother who died at the age of three. Thomas died when Isaac was about 8 years old (where??) and Isaac had to quit school to work. Martha remarried quickly and my mother-in-law never know what her new name was. Isaac was born 15 May 1883 in Winthorp, Missouri. I did find Thomas on the 1870 census in Washington, Doniphan, Kansas (but they were nowhere to be found on the 1880 census). Details: Thomas Dent - b. Mississippi, age 26 Nancy Dent - b. Mississippi, age 19 Mary A.E. Dent - b. Missouri, age 1 I think that Mary is Annie in the 1885 census and that Nancy was the mother of Annie, Adaline and William. I have had no luck in finding Thomas in earlier censuses. There appears to be a Thomas Dent born about 1844 in Rankin, Mississippi but all of the family trees I have viewed for the family indicate that he died in the Civil War. I do not know what happened for sure with the girls in the 1885 census. My mother-in-law remembers meeting either Lucy or Bell before her wedding in California - but she doesn't remember which one nor her aunt's married surname. William - I find him on the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 census living in Atchison, Kansas with wife Bertha Heisey and 3 children - Elsie, William Earl and Percy. William worked for the railroad. And in the 1930 census - Elsie (Leason) and Percy Dent are living in Topeka, Kansas. William Earl in living with wife Elsie in Falls City, Richardson, Nebraska - also working for the railroad. Winthorp. Missouri (Isaac's birthplace0 is right across the state line from Atchison. Isaac - In the 1900 census - he is living in Denver, Colorado. He married Gladys Morley of Parsons, Kansas (when??) and they had 6 children - Martha, James Richard, William Thomas, Robert Isaac, Ruth Adele, and Helen Rose. The first 5 are listed in the 1920 and 1930 census as being born in Montana - while Helen (my mother-in-law) supposedly was born in Coffeyville, Kansas (11 Sept 1932). I need to confirm this. Isaac died 13 March 1944 in Lewistown, Montana - Helen was only 12. I found this following message on this board: Jul 9, 2000 My g grandfather was Thomas Richard Dent b..1844 in England. Wife # 1...Nancy Suns(sp) He was an army scout in the Nebraska Territory. They had 1 son...William Green Dent b... Dec 1875 in St Joseph MO. I know nothing more about Thomas. Wife # 2...Don't know her name but they had 3 children, 2 girls, 1 boy. My grandfather was William. Can you help me? Thank You Barbara Z. Williams jmbz@tritel.net This information seems to fit except for middle initials of Thomas & William and the birthplace of Thomas. Barbara's email address no longer works and I have not had any luck finding her elsewhere on the web. Does any of these names look familiar to someone??? I would love to find out more about this family. Also, my mother-in-law ended up back in Nebraska and Missouri (she had no idea that Isaac ever lived in Nebraska). It would be great if she could have contact with her cousins or descendants. She did not have much time to learn about Isaac's family before he was gone. Thanks so much, Tina Wells Lincoln, Nebraska Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Since there is much activity on the Buchanan List though I would add a few surnames in case someone else is interested in them. William Vineyard & wife Deborah (Naylor) are in Buchanan Co before 1850 with several children. So is her sister Sarah (Naylor) with husband James Porter both families living close together in Lake Twp. Both men died in Buchanan Co. and the ladies went on to KS with some of their children. Looking for graves or obits or any record of death for the men. Next door to Lake Twp. is Rush Twp and there I have Wm. Rutledge before 1850 with a number of children but no wife. Looking for death of his second wife Diantha Eastman Terrill Rutledge and possibility of a third mg for Wm. Happy to share what I have found on these families over the last twenty years. I am researching the above names from the early 1800's until around 1900. I am especially searching for the burial site of Jesse Bledsoe sometime after 1893. He was married to Sarah Esther Tobin-Hughes-Bledsoe. Most of my family lived in the southern part of Buchanan County especially in the Platte township. Would be happy to share and exchange information.
