Author: TobinGirl Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.buchanan/4352.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: St. Joseph Asylum became the St. Joseph State Hospital No. 2. Recently a new facility has been opened called NMPRC, No.West Missouri Psychiatric Rehab Center. It is located across the street from the old hosptial and the address is still 36th and Frederick Blvd, St. Joseph, Mo. 64506. The records were saved to electronic records and are still with the facility. I worked there for 30 years and some of the old stories are fascinating. There is a small cemetery out back. At least around 1900 the census contained the patients who were there at the time. The Genealogy Society has separate copies of some of these.
