Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zJB.2ACE/1376.1 Message Board Post: I have some information on a train wresk that happen on September 3, 1861 that is referred to as the Platte River Bridge Disaster. I don't know if this may be what you have reference to. According to a display at the St. Joseph Museum (Wyatt-Tootle Mansion) it occured about 3 miles east of St. Joseph. The wreck was the result of the burning of the railroad bridge and about 16 civilians were killed. The curator told me that this puts it near Easton. She also said that there are very few newspaper articles from 1861 in the St. Joseph area exists and those that did were one sided based on their alliance. She knows of no articles that survived on this wreck. I will continue to look into this as I am researching the Village of Agency and collecting as much information as I can find. I also live in Agency and am connected with the Agency Ford Museum.

    3. Dear all, My gg grandparents were living at 103 East Elk in 1910. How do I know this? The census tells me this. There is also a 1920 census, but my family had moved back where they came from, Linn County, by then. The 1830 census are out, but not indexed. Has anyone researched Prospect Avenue in 1930 and know right where it was? Sorry I can't help more. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zJB.2ACE/1954.1 Message Board Post: I often use http://ssdi.rootsweb.com to find a locality for families. I use the "advanced search" feature, enter the surname, county and state for the last residence. This gives me a town, county for that surname and helps focus on local cemeteries. This only finds folks who had Social Security and who died after 1937. So it won't locate old timers. Board Administrator

Surnames: Catlin, Yawger Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zJB.2ACE/1958.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks Chuck. I've got the 1860 up to 1930 Censuses for my Catlins. Do birth records go back to 1869 for St. Joseph? The way I calculate it is that William & Catherine (Yawger) were married around 1867 in Cayuga County, New York, had Daniel (born about 1867/8 in Cayuga County, New York) went to St. Joseph after where my GGrandfather Jefferson was born March 8, 1869. They then returned to Cayuga County in time for the 1870 Census where they remained through the 1880 Census. Daniel died "as a young man" and then William, Catherine and Jeff moved to Illinois sometime after around the Chicago area where Jeff met and married Maggie Frew. They all then moved to Adrian, Michigan and my GUncle William Frew Catlin and my Grandmother Eva Catherine Catlin were born. My Mom is Eva's 9th child of 10.

I find that family, along with brother Daniel, age 2, in Springport, NY in 1870. Williams occupation is farmer. There are 3 other young adults living with them, possible farmhands. The family is still there in 1880 and shows the father as a retired farmer with a servant living with them as well. Jefferson is in Michigan by 1920. I have never seen any directory info before the 1880's but there may be some. St. Joseph was a main artery to those traveling west. Or perhaps the Civil War brought him to the area. Sorry not much help. Chuck

Surnames: Sutea Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zJB.2ACE/1957.1 Message Board Post: On the 1920 Census for Buchanan County, Missouri, I find a John Sutea, age 43 Lena, wife, age 35 Nick, son, age 16 All were born in Hungary. Both John and Lena show parents born in Hungary. The language looks like "Romanian O.L." but is hard to read. Next to them is another Hungarian family. The last could be Kartin or maybe Kastin: John, HOH, 40 Anna, wife, 40 John, son, 20 George, son, 17 Frances, daughter, 11 All from both families except Anna and Frances show working at a packing house. In 1930, it shows a different family in Buchanan County. Sutea, Raymond, head, age 32 Alexandre, wife, age 32 Helen, daughter, age 8 Also in the household is: Piligian, Andon ??????, Bog??? Sorry, I cannot make it out. There were other families in the area from Turkey, Poland and Russia. It would seem your Mike would fit in best with the 1920 folks. I found no earlier census so I am guessing they were somewhat new to the states. I hope something here helps. Chuck McCardie Farley, MO
