My message seems to have come up garbage. Here it is again: I am searching for any information regarding my Stewart family that came to Buchanan County in the mid 1800's. One member of the family was Dr. Robert Stewart who was a confederate in the Civil War. He served as a physician in Texas. I think this family lived in St. Joseph, but there is a town called Stewartsville in the county. I know that there is another Stewart family in the area so it might have been their home. My Stewarts did live in Stewartsville, Warren County, NJ prior to coming to Missouri. My family group sheet is below. Judith K. Arthur Name: Thomas G. STEWART1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 ————————————————————————————————————————————— Birth: 26 May 1797 Greenwich TWP, Warren County, NJ9,6,7 Death: 6 Dec 1869 St. Joseph, Missouri10 Occupation: Farmer Religion: Presbyterian Father: Robert STEWART, JR. (1759-1809) Mother: Mary STEWART (1767-1844) Misc. Notes He was a tax collector in Mansfield in 1830. He was received as a member of the Musconetcong Valley Presbyterian church on 13 June, 1837.11 He was an executor of his mother's will.2His funeral notation gives his age at death as 73 years.10At one time he owned 7 farms in Warren County and was a man of great enterprise and business ability. He also owned and operated a flour mill. He sold his property and moved to St. Louis, MO in 1843. He lived near the corner of Pine and Seventh Street.9 In the Federal census of 1850, Thomas and Christiana are living in New York in Brooklyn. He is listed as a merchant. 7 According to another source, Thomas G. Stewart came to St. Louis in 1854, engaging in general merchandise at the corner of Main and Pine Streets for a number of years, but failed in the financial crash of 1857. He retired from business and came to St. Joseph in 1858.
