Surnames: King, Fletcher Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zJB.2ACE/2025 Message Board Post: Francis King, age 44, was b. in Iowa. His father was b. in Tn. and his mother in Va. His wife, Sarah, age 44, was born in Ohio, as were her parents. They were in the Monroe Twp. in Andrew County, in 1880. They are believed to have lived around Avenue City at one time. They had the following children, Marshall, age 20, Mary J., age 14, Lulu, age 12, George Francis, age 8, Susan E., age 5, and Amos, age 2. Given the close proximity to Buchanan County, would anyone have any information on the King family? I am helping a relative of Francis to trace the family's whereabouts in the early days. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Dennis
Does any have any idea of where Yates Cemetery is located in Faucett Missouri? Thanks, Marsha
After years of research we have found our Catharine (Schoch) Rapp Thomas buried at the Blakely Cemetery near St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. Unfortunately Catharine's headstone only states the year of birth and year of death (1863-1901). The family bible indicates she was born October 10, 1863. Does anyone know if the burial records are available anywhere for the Blakely? If I could find out the date she was buried I might be able to find an obituary for her. We have determined her father was John M. Schoch, who was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania and died in Buchanan County, Missouri. John M.'s first wife died in 1854 in Indiana, so we know that Catharine was a daughter from a subsequent marriage or relationship, but we don't know to who. Catharine was first married to a Henry Rapp on January 20, 1884. Henry Rapp apparently met a tragic end on August 24, 1887. We don't know how Henry met his end, but the estate file says he was "killed" not "died". Catharine next married Robert Thomas, but she is buried at the Blakely with her first husband Henry Rapp. Buried next to her is a son from her second marriage (Robert Thomas b. Feb. 6, 1898 d. Feb. 7, 1900). Catharine had one son with her first husband, Elmer Rapp born in Feb. of 1886, who seems to have fallen off the face of the earth after the 1900 census. There were two children from the second marriage: Elmer Thomas, 8, b. Aug. 1891, son b. MO Goldie Thomas, 5, b. June 1894, daughter, b. MO Who also fell off the face of the earth after the 1910 census when they were living with Catharine's adopted sister/ step-niece Eliza J. (Smith) and William H. Williams in Marion Twp., Buchanan Co. Eliza J. (Smith) Williams was the daughter of Sarah (Schoch) Smith Brindley. Sarah was also a daughter of John M. Schoch by his first marriage. After the death of Catharine's mother (unknown date) and father in 1870, when Catharine was only 7, she was adopted by the Brindleys, so her half sister became her adopted mother and her step niece became her adopted sister. If anyone has access to the Buchanan County Marriages 1839-1865, the marriage of John M. Schoch and Catharine's mother might be listed in there. John M. arrived in Buchanan County prior to 1860 and was not yet re-married on the 1860 census. As daughter Catharine was born in 1863, we are guessing John M. remarried between 1860 and 1863. Any help would be appreciated, it is difficult researching Buchanan County, Missouri from Berks County, Pennsylvania, where I live. Betty J. Burdan; Berks County, PA

Velma, I have South family from KY. I know that some of them went to Missouri. I don't have Richard in my database. Have you checked with John South? Judith Arthur
I have been looking for my great great grandfather Richard L. South, or his family for some time now. He was born in KY and was married in 1835 to Sarah Cockrell. The general consensus has been that he died in the Civil War. But he also had a son, Richard L. South, who would have been old enough to go to war. I had heard that Sarah moved to MO after Richard died, but maybe it was the son that died. In 1870 Buchanan County, Mo, Bloomington Township, Dekalb P.O. there is a a Richard L. South born KY, age 68; Eliza born KY age 17, Sarah born KY age 15. The daughters are the right age. He also had a son, William, who would have been 23 in 1870 but I cannot find him anywhere either. I cannot find any Souths in 1880 census but the girls would have probably married. Does anyone have any information on this family? As old as Richard was in 1870 I suppose he died before 1880 and may be buried there. Also I would like to know more about the location of Bloomington Township and also Dekalb P.O. Would appreciate any help or feedback. Would like to make a trip to MO and would like to know the best place to go for the records I might need. Velma Atkinson

I think there is a book on Swiss families published by Andrew County Historical Society in Savannah, Mo. You might try the Andrew County Genealogical Society, Savannah, Mo. or the Northwest Genealogical Society in St. Joseph, Missouri for a lookup in this book for your Joss family. Good luck.
