I'm researching a Tilman Bohannan in Nodaway Co., Missouri. I found the following in the 1850 census for Greenwood Valley, El Dorado Co., California. "Family" 2 John Brown, 26, Tenn., miner Wm. Hawes, 26, England, miner Tilman Bohanan, 15, Tenn., miner Perdine Bohanan, 20, Tenn., miner Perlilla Bohanan, 21, Tenn., miner Thos. Bohanan, 18, Tenn., miner "Family" 3 Wm. G. Brown, 20, Tenn., miner Alexander J. Officer, 27, Tenn., miner Jas. R. Harper, 28, Ky., miner I'm sure that is your John Brown. Priscilla is back home in Nodaway Co. Tilman married Margaret J. Hughes in Nodaway Co., in 1884. She was my g-g-grandfather's sister. They are buried in Groves Cemetery, Hughes Twp., Nodaway Co. From their tombstones, she died in 1899 and he died in 1907. The name on his tombstone is spelled Bohannan, hers is spelled Bohannon. I can't find Tilman or my entire Hughes family in the 1860 census, though I have them in 1850 and 1870 and on. Tilman is listed as blind in 1870 and 1880. Curious if you have come across anything on any of them. I found the other Bohannans in 1860 as well as a whole slew of Browns in Nodaway Co. The museum director was very helpful when my husband and I made the trip to see the site for ourselves. Unfortunately, her grave is now right outside the fence of a state prison and we weren't allowed to go up to it. They have put a memorial sign up for those that are buried there but the dates on it are incorrect. After I contacted them about my aunt, they discovered that many more graves were there that they didn't know or forgot about. I was told that changes would be made but I live in Florida and will have to trust that they will follow through with it.

The Glore psychiatric Museum or Northwest Missouri Genealogy Society may be able to get you started on how to check but I know you pay 15.00 for a court order to view the records and you must go before a judge to do so. The new HIPPA act has caused a tremendous amount of red tape. You can view St Joseph State hosp under Census records on Ancestry.com I have found info there but it lists very minimal info.
