Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zJB.2ACE/2370.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks for the SS Dept info. Yes, I already did have all that info you referred to. Also, I do know whol Eliza Jane & little Lettie married. Eliza marred James Green about 1890. He was the brother of Albert Green whom Mary E. Estes married also about 1890. Little Lettie married John Cardwell about 1896. Since Jess Belcher was born before any of the above were married, and since he lists Mary E. (Estes) Green on his draft record, my guess is that he may have been an illigitimate child of hers. Guess the best way to find out is to get a copy of his SSN application like you suggested. Thanks again for the help. Jeff Day

Surnames: Belcher Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zJB.2ACE/2370.1.1.1 Message Board Post: The 1880 census shows Lettie with 4 children, Mary E. (probably who he is living with at WW1 draft), Abraham (who they were living next to in 1900), Eliza Jane, and Lettie. However, on the 1900 census, it states Lettie had 3 children and only 2 living. But the parent info matches up as far as where they were born. Puzzling. The older 3 are with John and Lettie in 1870. Just to make it interesting, they list Jess as the son of Lettie on the 1910 census. Anyway, you probably have all this. I was checking the census hoping to find a Belcher living nearby. I did see Henry Manville living nearby in 1900. He is who Jess listed as working for on his WW1 card. I don't have access to Buchanan marriage records. If you could find who Eliza Jane and young Lettie married, or even one of them, you could find your answer. I think Mary married a Green and took Jess in when Lettie died. It's too bad the 1890 census was destroyed. Here is the address for the SSA to request a copy of the SS-5 form for Jess. His SS# (public record) was 488-14-4867. With this info you can get a copy of his original application for his social security number. Among the data he would be required to submit is both parents names including mothers maiden name. I think it cost $27 or you can get a print out condensed version for a little less. This only time I asked for the condensed version, I was disappointed in the lack of info. I would strongly recommend the full copy of original. On his WW1 draft card he listed a Mary E. Green as his nearest relative. He was also living at her same address in Smithville, MO. It appears he was in Faucett, MO when he died. Best of luck. Chuck McCardie

    2. Virgene, I found the records for my grandparents divorce at the Northwest Missouri Genealogical Society. They have a lot of the old courthouse records stored there. They were very helpful, also, in helping me find the proper volumes, etc. My grandparents divorced in 1908. Dave In a message dated 9/20/2006 9:47:27 PM Central Standard Time, smiller@stjoelive.com writes: Hi Virgene, Divorce records are at the Buchanan County Courthouse. You will need to know which court handled the divorce and the date as they are filed chronologically. I am not aware of the records being archived in KC for Buchanan County. You may be able to get the district court records from the Missouri State Archives, but you will need to look in the index in the volume under the name of the plaintiff or defendant. Hope this helps.
