Missourian, Cape Girardeau, Mo Mrch 2001 ILA ABERNATHY Marble Hill -- Ila May Abernathy, 75, of Marble Hill died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Elder Care of Marble Hill. She was born on Jan. 31, 1926, at Marquand, Mo.; daughter of Rhonie N. "Tots" and Edna May Mabuce Hansen. Abernathy was a sales clerk at Chandler Drug Store and a Green Thumb employee at Bollinger County Sheriff's Office, Assessor's Office, City Hall and Woodland School. She attended Marble Hill United Methodist Church. She had lived at Marble Hill 40 years. Survivors include three sisters, Marie Greer of Bessville, Mo., Hazel Dulle of Mehlville, Mo., and JoAnn Shrum of Marble Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Friends may call at Hutchings Funeral Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. Michael Wood officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery at Bessville. CARD OF THANKS The family of Ila May Abernathy has so many people to thank for the many kind acts extended to her and the family during her illness and death. She had many friends who visited her at her home and at Eldercare. Many people who sent floral tributes, food, cards and prayers and they will always be remembered by her family with thanks. We give special thanks to Eldercare and their employees for their gentle treatment; to Rev. Woods for the message he gave; Hutchings Funeral Home for their excellent service and kindness to the family; to Old Union United Methodist Church for the luncheon after the funeral; to her nieces and nephews that served as pall bearers; and to Bruce Gree and Corine Daughtery for the lovely music provided.
