Kirby J. Smith March 9, 1916 Kirby J. Smith quietly passed from this life to his eternal rest about 11 o'clock, Friday morning, February 25, 1916, at the home of H. M. Grindstaff, near Patton, of Pneumonia. Kirby was about 48 years of age. His home was in Butte, Montana, but being in bad health, he came back to Missouri to regain his health among his many friends, but God called him home to rest in a short time after he came back. He leaves a loving wife and five children, also a stepmother, one brother and two sisters to mourn his departure.
