I was at Bollinger Mill and park a couple weeks ago. Tours are available. The bridge is open to foot traffic only. What a beautiful setting. I would highly recommend a trip and tour. The grounds are very nice and people very friendly. Betty Kokal
I understand there is no plan to re-open the bridge. Does anyone have any info on a M.B. Norton died about 1863. Thought it might be a civil War ? There is a story about 4 men 3 union soldiers and burying them in a shallow grave at White cemetery? I find this interesting as they were supposed to be MO guerillas and my great uncle was said to be a guerilla and buried in the cemetery - Frederick Caby. I've been reading a little book written by Mary Hahn called Bits of History. It is such a lovely book. The stories are wonderful about the people who lived in the Bollinger area. If you can get it to read, Do. I wondered if anyone here has been to the Mill that Col. Bollinger built. The book says it is still standing near the Burfordville covered bridge in Cape Girardeau Co. I guess it is now a State Park and the Mill is bring renovated. Does anyone know if it is finish and can be seen now. Col. Bollinger died in 1842 and is buried near the mill in a tomb, with his slaves buried all around him. Any stories about this mill or site. Helen L. Dear Lorena -- Sorry your computer crashed. I'm always glad to see your name on the screen. I appreciate the help we have received from you from your books regarding the BOLLINGER family. I am trying to finish my research and get it organized on the following families: BOLLINGER, Heinrich - Germany - Pennsylvania - N.Carolina - Missouri - California SWINDELL, (SWANDALL) - Cheshire, England - N.Carolina - Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri - etc. PROFFER, John - Germany - N.Carolina - Missouri PROPST (PROBST), Franz (Frank) Joseph - Switzerland - Holland - Missouri DeLONG, Joseph - Northern France - Nieuw Schoenbeek, Drenthe, Netherlands, United States, Missouri Sincerely, Vivian Swindell DeLong
Due to two recent computer crashes I have lost a goodly portion of my email addresses. Many of these were from people wanting to know more about my list for "GERMAN SPEAKING PEOPLE West Of the Catawba River IN NC 1750-1800. Many addresses that I have been able to recoup are now outdated and the mail bounces. I have recently sent emails out. If you know you were on my list and didnot receive mail from me, or wish to be placed on the list, then please make a request from me again. I have news for you Thanks, Lorena
Dear List Members, If you were effected by the Comcast buy out, then you need to read this, if not delete it. Just this evening, I have receive over 100 requests for me to change e-mail address to a Comcast address. Many of these requests mention multiple lists of which the sender needs their e-mail address changed. It will take me a good week or so to get through them all. My suggestion is; If you still have the ability to unsubscribe go to PASSWORD Central at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ type in your old e-mail address, and follow the directions. You will receive an e-mail from which you can unsubscribe. If you can't do this, then you will just need to re-subscribe with your new address and let the old one bounce off. To re-subscribe this go to John Fuller's mailing list site http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html or remember you can subscribe and or unsubscribe by sending only the word UNSUBSCRIBE or SUBSCRIBE to XXXXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM or XXXXXX-D-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM if you are on the Digest List. Naturally change the XXXXXX to the name of the list. If all else fails, contact me, but be understanding if it takes me a while to get to you. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
For those of you who are visiting the cemeteries and graves of your loved ones, your ancestors this weekend and have a few extra flowers, think of placing them on one of the lonely graves which are never visited. Or, if you are living in an area where you have no one, think of visiting a cemetery and placing flowers by one of these lonely graves. I live in Logan Utah and tomorrow I will be visiting several local cemeteries and will be placing flowers on graves. Over the past years I have adopted these graves, these people and I hope that someone out there is doing the same for my loved ones. This is the day to remember those who came before us, who forged the paths that we now walk. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
