Lorena I am going to Mo to see my Mom and will check my files when I get back, good to hear from you. Adruain
Adruain: I thought about you all when I went through Bowling Green on the way to MO in April but didn't have time to stop. Besides I was traveling against a storm system and didn't want to get caught in it more than I was.. I have a fair workup on the Crites/Cato connections that went to TX. What do you have on the other CATO-Crites families in Bollinger Co? I'm trying to put my files in order for preservation. Hi Helen, concerning Madison Co., MO, by any chance do you have any information on a fire that was started by the sparks of a train?? We have a story in our family that Great-GrandMother Susan CHEEK-WHITENER was burned by that fire while she and Elijah WHITENER ( her husband, she being the 2nd wife of Elijah WHITENER) and the older children were working in the fields bringing in the crops.. I have not found any thing on this fire as of yet and don't know if she died of those burns or was just badly burnt.. also I don't have any dates on this but MeMa said she was a between 10-15 years old, she was born abt. 1883/4.. of course she is gone now so I cant ask any more questions..ugh!! :( Thank you for any help you can give me. Sandee I have more info on Madison but this is all on the family. Helen --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - 50x more storage than other providers!

Hi I'm looking for John Henry SMITH born 1861. His family lived in Lawrence. His father was Andrew J, his mother is Caroline, and his older brothers seem to all have famous names - Madison R, Columbus E, Newton J, and Andrew J after his father. I would like to know if anyone is related to this family that can tell me who John married or anything really about this family. Thank you. Michelle M
Hi Betty, Today I was told some new info on the COLLINS that I have. See if anything rings a bell to you. Remember this is just ( hear say ) I have not looked yet. ( Read all the way down ) Jesse COLLINS b. maybe 1830? from N.C. married Julie Ann COLLINS ( yes, that's what I was told ) they were married in Catoosa County, Georgia in 1860 There children I was told are........... Whitson Sara John C. Mary N. Dennie ( female ) James Monroe Squire P. Martha Amilia(sp?) b. TN married John William ACUP 1876 in Graves Co, KY. George Robert Huston I have seen a Whitson COLLINS and I posted about it on the message boards. Now this 1880 census for Bollinger Co,MO. shows as this....... ( see memo below it to ) > Fillmore, Bollinger, Missouri > > Whitson COLLINS Self M Male W 50 TN Farm Laborer NC NC > Mary E. COLLINS Wife M Female W 56 NC Keeping House NC NC > Frances MORRIS Dau W Female W 21 TN TN NC > Louvenia MORRIS GDau S Female W 5 KY KY TN > Mary N. MORRIS GDau S Female W 2M MO KY TN The above Frances is Frances Ardilia " Mary " COLLINS who married Franklin Alexander MORRIS. Now the above that show as daughters of Frances is Frances Ardilia " Mary " COLLINS both married PUGH's. Louvenia also shown as Luvina and Luley married Wm. T. PUGH Mary N. who's name is Mary Navada Elizabeth married William Washington PUGH Now the above shows her as a widow and father Whitson COLLINS, but below shows her with her husband. So did the census taker make a mistake when told he wasn't there and thought he was dead??? who knows. Theresa, Josephine Collins is actually Lofilia Josephine Collins, born March 17, 1868 in Lutesville, Bollinger Co., MO. She was the sister of Cynthia L. Collins who married Philip Shell. Josephine married Thomas Marion Tippett and resided in Stoddard Co. MO. They were my husbands great-grandparents. Josephine and Cynthia's parents were Barry Collins and Elizabeth Mary Green. I do not know the parents of Barry Collins. Siblings of Barry Collins were Pinkney Quinn, Henderson Quincy, and Malinda. H. F. Collins was Henderson Quinn Collins, son of Pinckney Quinn Collins. I'm not sure how Whitson Collins fits in with this family. I do not have him listed with my other Collins family. Hi Ellen, I printed out the 1880 census showing that spelling of POUND just in case since the Fillmore part was so hard to read, but that's how familysearch.org has the spelling. Thanks for telling me about that area. As far as a Cemetery Look up, just any PUGH's you can find when ever you have time or feel like it....know what I mean. Hi Lorena, Yes, I have seen the spelling of PEW as for PUGH. On familysearch.org and ancestry.com they have the sound index. I think I have even seen it spelled POUGH. But by luck so far the one's I have seen for my line has been shown spelled PUGH. Thank you for mentioning that about the spellings. Theresa

Hi, Theresa, I checked the Obits books by Nelda Wilkerson and found nothing on your Pugh line. I checked the marriages of Bollinger County and found: W.T. Pugh and Luley M. Morris married 7 Dec 1892 and Rebecca A. Pugh married Pinkney Mc Daniel on 7 Mar 1894. I checked the 1880 Bollinger County Census and found: 86.PO-- Thomas 34, Mary A. 28, Viola 10, William 8, Alva 7. This may or may not be your line but you can go to FamilySearch.com and type in the name of Thomas PO and find more on this family. A lot of the data for Fillmore Twnsp is blurred and unreadable. I checked for Morris in 1880 and found nothing in Bollinger County. I still have unchecked sources for your other names. Hope this helps. I will check further and get back to you. I also went to the Archives and checked the Wills and Probate records--no Pugh. Hi Bev, Thank You for looking in your Wayne Co,MO. books, but yes I do have that info. I feel bad I guess I should of said that but was thinking just on the PUGH part. Yes, That is my William Henry LANE and his 2nd wife Adelia Rosa BARBER. I have William Henry LANE and Elzora PUGH on the 1900 census and I have him and his 2nd wife 1910 - 1930 census. I also have William Henry LANE's obit. I have to this day never found either of them on any census before 1900. I ordered William Henry LANE's death certificate and all it said was he was born January 15, 1858 in ILL., no County or nothing mentioned. Showed his parents as John LANE and Elizabeth PERRYJIM both from ILL., and no other info. I believe PERRYJIM is spelled wrong and I have posted everywhere on any spelling I thought it mightbe. I have posted everywhere from my LANE and PUGH. I had got a e-mail about 2 months back from this lady who has old papers of her mothers and in her mothers notes she has that she (her mother) was told Elzora PUGH had married Wm. H. LANE and they lived in Wayne Co,MO. and that after the death of Elzora from giving child birth her two children stayed with William and Mary PUGH. She say's that a William Thomas PUGH Sr. is Elzora's father and mother unknown because he married at least twice that she knows of, but has no names. She told me Elzora's sibling were William Washington PUGH, Emma Lou Frances PUGH, Dora, and Birdie Alice. Mary Navada Elizabeth MORRIS married William Washington PUGH. ( her line ) Emma Lou Frances PUGH married James William "Willie" ACUP ( have some info, but not Pugh ) Dora PUGH married James Albert TREAS Jr. ( can't find them anywhere ) Birdie Alice PUGH married John ATKINS ( can't find them anywhere ) and she says there are more children and names unknown. I think this William T. PUGH below on 1900 census is the brother to all of the above PUGH's??? I don't know when or where he died at, and from info from the lady who told me about this PUGH line it looks like this William T. PUGH's wife Luvina's surname is MORRIS and half sister to the above Mary Navada Elizabeth MORRIS. There mother is named Frances Ardilia COLLINS. Was told Luvina was the 1st daughter of Frances Ardilia COLLINS she was unwed. and she married Franklin Alexander MORRIS and they show on the 1900 census with Birdie PUGH age 11 as there daughter! ???? I have some other odds and ends clues and I've even posted them with other surnames and nobody is doing these lines or they know nothing about the PUGH's. I have been twirling around for years trying to find them. :( Bev, and or list all census info is below. Hi Vivian, I have heard about the book " The Shoe Cobbler's Kin" but I don't know if it has my surnames PUGH in it. My brickwall is the PUGH's. They were from TN. to KY. to MO. A lady told me that my GGgrandmother was kin to her line of PUGH's which were in Bollinger and Dunklin Counties. Some of these names were William Thomas PUGH, William Washington PUGH, Birdie Alice PUGH, Elzora PUGH, and Emma Lou Frances PUGH. My GGgrandmother is Elzora PUGH b.1875 KY who married William Henry LANE b.1858 ILL. I found them on the 1900 census in Cowan, Wayne Co,MO. other than that I know nothing about my PUGH or LANE line. :( I can't seem to find either of them before 1900 and I have posted everywhere and nobody seems to connect to them. Going by info or clues I have I think some of these PUGH might of died in Bollinger and were married in Bollinger in the years late 1870's - 1920's ? I am/was posting about the other surnames who were married to the PUGH's or have connections to them in hopes maybe someone searching the other surnames might have info on the PUGH's and maybe with the tid bits I have I can break through this brickwall. Some of these PUGH are in Bollinger in 1900 and 1910 census, but need obits, marriage or something to get more clues and prove my line. My Elzora died in her late 20's after the 1900 census, her son never had any children and her daughter my Ggrandmother died age 22 in 1918 so all the family info was lost. So I'm twirling around in Missouri trying to find something. Theresa Theresa, good to hear from you. Have you come in contact with any of the books that Lorena Shell Eaker has written? She has covered a lot of ground which includes much of the Bollinger family and their families. She has published "The Shoe Cobbler's Kin, Genealogy of the Peter Eaker Sr., Family" - Vol 1 covers 1701-1976 and has 1040 pages and 42,000 names. Vol II brings the story through 1985, with 1145 pages and 1900 names. She has also published "German Speaking People, West of the Catawba River in North Carolina, 1750-1800, And some emigre's participation in the early settlement of Southeast Missouri, Copyright 1994, 596 pages and approx. 25000 names. She has just finished "One Wise Man", A genealogy of Frederick Wise of Lincoln County, NC and His Descendants. All of these books include a lot of the Bollingers of our family. My husband and I drove down to Dexter in Stoddard County a couple of weeks ago to sit in on a meeting Lorena was having about this latest book which is about the Wise family, but I came down with a cold and after I bought her book, we headed home where I am just now feeling like a human again. I haven't been able to page through it yet. You can contact Lorena S. Eaker at P.O. Box 2125, Church Hill, TN 37642. (She is a Missouri girl and has probably moved to TN since her husband passed away.) She will be glad to talk to you about her books. She is getting up in age -- and it is my guess this is probably her last book, She is having book review meetings around different libraries in Southeast Missouri. I'm really sorry I couldn't stay for the first one she had in Dexter. Bedtime == gotta go. Vivian
