Does the Bollinger Co. Historical Society have a web site? I'd like it mainly so I can order things from their "catalog", if they have one. I have an old order form but figure they must have something newer. Thanks. Donna Dellinger
Hi List, I am new and really need some help. I have been chasing my Hurchel Palmer Smith since Jan 99. I recently learned that a Hurchel Palmer Smith married a Essie Vivian Bowman on 15 May 1965 in Stoddard County, MO. I have found both a Hurchel Smith and Essie V Smith that died in Bollinger County MO. I would be willing to pay if some kind sole could find an Obit for a Hurchel Smith that was born 14 Jan 1911 and died in Mar 1975 in Bollinger County, MO. Essie V Smith died 17 Aug 1995 in Bollinger County, MO. I am pretty sure this was the second marriage for Hurchel and know it was the second marriage for Essie V Bowman. Any help on Hurchel Smith will be much appreciated. Take Care & God Bless, Jim Smith Collinsville, IL
Does anyone have a copy of "History of Missouri from the Earliest Explorations and Settlements Until the Admission" by Louis Houck and can do a look-up for me? Many thanks for any reply! Best regards, Diana
I am scanning my 57 year collection of files onto CDs for preservation and distribution. As I work with new files (since my books were published and files before that, many of which was not included in my books, I keep finding important notes that needs to be shared. Such is the case here. Email of Febraury 2001 from my good friends Ray and Agnes Yount of Maryland: "Lorena: On page 343 of German Speaking People West Of The Catawba River IN NC, you speculate that the BARRICKS in NC may have been related to the BERGS in Frederick Co., MD. I believe this to be correct. The Book, Volume III, "Monacacy and Cacoctin" by Calvin E Schildknecht gives the following account: "The emigrant was Johan Wilhelm Berg (Barrack) born in Nordhofen in Westerwald, Germany 1683 (son of Johan Peter) He married Johanata Maria Andreas. The dialect word for Berg in high German meaning hill or mountain is BARRACK, But Barrick has been used." "Then while searchng Frederick County Land records for my ZIMMERMAN connections, I just found the following: Liber. L. George Zimmerman recorded 8 Dec 1768, made 22 June, between HANDLE BARRICK (which seems to be the possible origin of the spelling of HUNTEEL BARKS, LSE's note) of Frederick County tract called Mill Plain. Signed: JOHAN NICHOL BARRICK. His wife, Judith, also signs, releasing her dower. (I believe this George Zimmerman is the brother of Anna Elizabeth Zimmerman who married Johannes Jundt, the NC immigrant. So it appears Handle is a contraction of Johan Nichol?" Ray Lorena's note: It would behoove BARKS descendants to follow up on this lead. Heaven only knows what I might find in my files after I have waded through the several different Baker family files, etc. I found this note in the Misc. "B" files while looking for Bakers that might have been lost in the shuffle! My good deed for the day! Lorena
I don't know anything about Randolph Cheek and Sarah Noel other than I have one of their daughter's, Patience, in my family tree as she married into the Welker family. I do have some information on her family if you are interested. Ruth
Hi Ruth, I am so happy to hear from you. I believe that Randolph is the father of my GG grandmother Elizabeth Cheek that married Hiram Lee in 1826 in Cape Gir. Co. MO. Do you have any more information on her. I found an obit for David Abernathy who married Elvira Inman 22 jul 1868. It does not give his parents names but he died 29 May 1929 in Thawville, Ill., and is buried there. He was born 31 March 1845 in N.C. He had eight children Christine Matthew Barbara Walthers Emma Houetzel and the others are not listed. --- "G. L. April 13, 1911 Lutesville News The Rev. Joseph A. Russell One of the oldest and best known ministers of the M.E. Church, South, in this section of the state, died at his home in Lutesville Saturday morning, April 8, 1911, after a short illness. Mr. Russell was a native of Tennessee and an ex-Confederate soldier, having lost an arm at the battle of Franklin. he was about 73 years of age and up to a short time before his demise bid fair to work in his favorite service many years. Rugged, hearty and ready at all times for any turn of fortune, he was the typical old-time preacher, who had a home at every hamlet and crossroads. Rev. N. B. Henry of Bonne Terre conducted the funeral of his old friend and brother, after which all that was mortal of him was laid to rest in Slaybaugh cemetery. (Bollinger Co.) John Russell of Libertyville was at the bedside of his father. Joseph Russell of St. Louis came down last week to be at the bedside of his father. Lutesville News. > [Original Message] > From: B. He lived from 1825 to 1874. His father is supposed to be Isaish Abernathy and his mother Sarah. He married David Abernathy to Aby Innman on 7/22/1868, and he married Laurence Abernathy to Frances Robinson on 11/15/1870. Laurence is my great Grandfather, and I wonder if it is more than a coincidence that David A. performed the marriage. Laurence is the son of Eva Abernathy whose parents are unknown. There are some hints that she may be a sister to David A. Abernathy. I'm trying to get around a wall on Eva's parents. The David who married Aby also may be related. I can not locate his parents. In 1870 his mother Joanna is living in his household. I can not find her any earlier than 1870. In 1870 David and Aby are living next to Matthew Abernathy who married Barbrey Eaker. Barbrey is a first cousin to my great Grandfather. This Matthew in 1860 was in the household of Caleb Eaker along with Eva Abernathy who is my great great Grandmother, my great Grandfather Laurence and his twin sister Teletha. Matthew is not Eva's son, so maybe he's a nephew or brother. There is some connection between these people, and I hope someone can help me find out what it is. --- Bob Godwin <brgodwin@yahoo.com> wrote: > There is more than one David A. Abernathy. Hi, Bettye, I do not know who added the dates to J. A. Russell's tombstone or how gave the data to the newspaper, you may check the Bollinger County Archives for a probate or will record. Sometimes they give the death date. It may be helpful to check the 1900 census of the area where he was living then for the birth month and year. I will check the Bollinger County 1900 census and if I find anything, I will let you know. The phone number for the Bollinger County Archives is 573-238-3413 and the email address is BoCoArchives@clas.net. If you want me to look in the archives for you, it will be two weeks before I can do so. Ellen --- "B. Warner" <bkwofc@i1.net> wrote: > Thanks Ellen! I assume you mean J. A. Thanks Ellen! I assume you mean J. A. Russell? I'm still somewhat confused, however, since obit indicates that he died on a Saturday, and April 18th in the year 1911 fell on a Tuesday. Also, assuming age of 73 years at time of death as given in obit is correct, it does not compute out with dates given in cometery listing as they compute to age of 78 years. Either the cemetery listing is incorrect or the information contained in newspaper was incorrect. Are there any other resources available in Bollinger County where these dates could be double-checked? Bettye > J. A. Warner is buried in the Slaybaugh cemetary > in Bollinger County. I have information on a William Thomas Hanners in Bollinger county. Here's the information that I have on W.T. Hanners from Bollinger county. He was born about 1872 His father was William Hanners, also of Bollinger County and his mother was Mary Elizabeth Statler. William Hanners father was John Hanners of Bollinger county (from Pope and/or Johnson County Illinois.) William Hanners mother was Margaret Langston. Most of my information comes from the 1860 through 1880 censuses in Bollinger county, Mo., and the 1840 and 1850 censuses in Pope and Johnson Counties in IL. I hope this helps, Greg Bowman _________________________________________________________________ Dont just search. Find. Arizona seals births for 75 years and deaths for 50 years, but before that they are online - you can also download a copy of the original document. Maybe some of your Bollinger folks went to or came from Arizona! Address is: http://genealogy.az.gov/ Joan Jaco
