Dear List Members, It is that time of year again when our lists will suddenly have an influx of new online genealogy enthusiasts with their holiday gift computer, which are usually newer and faster than what many of the rest of us have. For a great many of them, it will be their first time online. Some of them will make mistakes and some may (will) unintentionally do things and write things that may be irritating to us and against what we have set up as our list rules. Please take this into consideration in advance and be helpful to these new members. If things get out of hand, know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problems. Just remember, one of these new members might hold the clue you have been searching for. Let us not discourage them before they have a chance to learn how this works. I would like also to take this time to wish each of you and yours a wonderful and safe Holiday Season. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Hi Don, The site is looking great. I am working tonight with some cemetery information and newspapers. Talk soon. ===== See you here, there, or in the air!!! Kay McGregor
Hi, Cousin, I am kin to all of the above. My father is Melbern James, his mother is Hollie Jane Eaker who is sister to Uncle Dewey. I am not sure just how to start answering all of these wonderful questions so I have printed them and will answer them one at a time. I have our family history on the Eakers back to the dark ages thanks to a lot of good cousins working on our family. I have the Ford and Fowler families back some generations. I will send you a little bit at a time. Where do you live? I live just over the hill from the cemetary where Lorance Eaker and his families are buried. We will have to see about getting to gether for a trip to the cemetary after the weather gets a lot better. I must get busy. Hello, Sorry it took me so long to write back, we've been out of town..... I haven't been working on my family tree for too long so any information you would like to share with me would be so appreciated. My line of the Eakers goes: My Dad, William Dewey Angel. My grandma, Velma Edith Eaker. My great-grandpa, Dewey Roosevelt Eaker, then Thomas Sherman Eaker, then Thomas Andrew Jackson Eaker, then Lorance Eaker. I have all the information on Velma, including her siblings. If you have any, the information I'm missing is: 1. For Dewey Roosevelt Eaker, his marriage date, siblings, and any other information of interest that might be listed for him. I have his birth and death dates, but no cause of death or where he's buried. 2. Thomas Sherman Eaker. I have his birth, marriage and death dates. But I don't know any of his siblings. I know he was blind and had his eyes removed after they became diseased. I have a picture of him, he always wore aviator goggles because of that. Family stories say that he was well known for being able to always guess the weight of hogs even though he couldn't see. People would always try to fool him, but he was always right to within a pound. They often made bets on him. If you have any other information of interest on him I'd love to have it. Also anything like cause of death and where he's buried. 3. Thomas Andrew Jackson Eaker. I have his birth, marriage and death dates, but I don't know any of his siblings. Also any other interesting info., cause of death and where he's buried. 4. Lorance Eaker. All I have is this name and who he married. I have no dates, siblings or any other information on him at all. 5. Emma Idella Fowler. I know she married Thomas Sherman Eaker. I have her birth, marriage and death dates, but absolutely nothing else. 6. Bakers. I know I'm related, but I haven't figured out where they come in at in my ancestry. I remember my grandma, Velma, always saying that we were related to the man they named Sam A. Baker state park after. She never said how though, or if she did, I was young enough and at the time not interested in family history enough, to remember it. Thank you so much for anything you send me. How are you related to the Eakers? I'm finding that it is a Huge family. I still keep in touch with relatives who still live in and around Marble Hill. I don't know much myself, but any information I have that you might need I'd be happy to share. My grandma just died last year and she lived several of the last years with my parents, so I can tell you a lot about her. I know bits and pieces about her siblings but I only usually share info about the deceased ones unless I get permission from the ones still alive. Most of her family lived far enough away that I knew them and saw them several times in my life, but I didn't really know them very well. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Take care and I hope to hear from you soon. Hello, Well, I'm not sure...... I'm not a direct decendant of any Garners, they have to be cousins. I know that my Great Aunt, my Paternal Grandpa's sister, married a Jonah Garner. The funny thing is, I don't have any names or dates, other than Myrtle and Jonah Garner and some of their kids, but I have a lot of stories about 2 specific Garner men. That's the main reason I'm trying to find out info on them even though I'm not a direct descendant of theirs. The stories I've heard about them were awesome, and I really wish I would have had the chance to have known them. They seem like real characters....... The two men I'm specifically interested in are: Homer Garner and James "Foxy" Garner. I'm still not sure if Homer was Jonah's son, brother or father....... Homer Garner actually lived in Advance, but he did buy a lot of land in Bollinger County. I think he bought a bunch of Abe Clubb's farm, which is in Bollinger County. From what my Dad has told me, Homer was a judge, owned a huge cattle ranch, and did some really wild things....... Foxy Garner was still alive after 1964 because I did know him, but I was too little to remember him at all. Dad said he used to come to St. Louis to buy a pickup truck full of beer and he'd often take me and my Mom and Dad to the store and tell me to go thru the store and fill the basket up with anything I wanted. Mom and Dad would never let him though........ LOL The only other thing I know about him is that he died and is buried in Florida. There is also a Troy Garner, I met him last year at my Grandma's funeral. He looks so much like my Grandpa that I almost had a heart attack when he walked into the room. I thought my Grandpa came back from the dead...... If you recognize any of these names and have any information on them that you'd like to share, I'd appreciate it so much. If you know them and want some of the stories I have, I can e-mail them to you. They're really fascinating. They're all just family stories, much of which I'm sure couldn't be proven, but they are great stories. Much of what I've heard about Homer Garner are slightly on the wrong side of the law, but some are quite funny...... Hi Kay, Phillip jr is my great great great grandfather. I come through Phillip jr's son William Benjamin Killian and his daughter Francois Louisa Killian. After Francois Louisa married James Monroe Brotherton (also of Bollinger Co), they along with William Benjamin (and his wife) moved down to the Bootheel of MO. My grandmother and mother were born and raised around Kennett. I guess this makes us cousins. One of the reasons we are looking for a link between Phillip sr and Phillip jr is to get my mother into the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). We would appreciate any information on the link between Phillip sr and Phillip jr you have. He are mainly looking for BIBLE records, deeds, wills, etc .. But we will take whatever you have. If you send anything from a book please send a copy of the title page too. Back in August my folks and I traveled up to MO and we to the genealogical libraries at Jackson and Marble Hill. We werent able to make a documented link between the two. Although we felt like they had to be father and son. Thanks for the help ! What kind of preacher is your husband ? I live down in Huntsville, Alabama. Which is in the center of the state close to the Tennessee line. Where are you ? Thanks again. >>> mcgregorfamil@sbcglobal.net 11/25/02 11:28PM >>> MArk, "My" Mary Catherine Killian was 1st cousin twice removed of Phillip Killian,Jr. How are yours tied in? I have several articles and alot of family sheets from the Killian family. I would be glad to share them. The Goodspeed book I told you about has been out of print for a number of years. I bought mine at an estate auction and paid $175.00 for it. I have seen one on EBay-the reserve price was $200. I don't know where you live. But if you have a fairly large library close, you may be able to get it on interlibrary loan, but I'll be happy to send you what I have. I'll get the files out over the holidays and get back to you propbably on Saturday or Monday. My husband is a minister, so the weekends are full. ===== See you here, there, or in the air!!! Laura: Are you familar with "The Shoe Cobbler's Kin, a genealogy of the Peter Eaker, Sr. Family Volume I & Volume II"? Which Eaker line do you have in Bollinger Co?All of the names you mentioned are in these books in one fashion or another. These books can be found in most major libraries. There is also a new book coming out that has these families in it too "One Wise Man", a genealogy of The Frederick Wise Family. More than 400 of the 1184 pages pertain to the family in Bollinger Co. Tell me who your parents, grandparentsand greatgrandparents are and I can tell you how you fit in. If you tell me where you live, I might be able to direct you to a library near you that has them. Hello Kay, I'm also descended from a Killian line. My Great Grandma was Minerva Killian, daughter of Henry Killian and Margaret Sweezy. Minerva married John Rowe. The Killian line I'm descended from goes from Minerva, to her father Henry, his father was Andrew, his father was Jacob, then John, then Andreas. Andreas was my GGGGGG Grandpa. He came from Koenigsberg, Germany. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Do you have any information on this line of Killians? I have most of the birth, marriage, and death dates for everybody. I also know that Margaret Sweezy-Killian was killed in a tornado in Dongola, MO. in 1917. If you have any more information on them that you'd like to share, I'd be so grateful. Also, if there's anything I have that you need I'd be happy to send it to you.
