W. Spurgeon - 22 June 1951: Son of Mrs. Rena Spurgeon, Cole Camp Passed Away Monday. Dr. Charles Wray Spurgeon, son of the late Frank Spurgeon and Mrs. Rena Wray, died in a hospital at Washington, Mo., on June 18, 1951, of a heart ailment and pneumonia. He had been in poor health for a number of years and critically ill for the past four weeks. He was fifty years old. Dr. Spurgeon was born and reared in Cole Camp, educated in the public schools there, and graduated from Kansas City Wester Dental College in 1924. He practiced his profession for four years in New Florence, Mo., and in hermann, Mo. since 1928. He was married to Miss Bernice Koneger of High Hill, Mo., on June 8, 1927. He was reared in the Congregational Church, was a former member of both the Cole Camp and Hermann Community Bands, was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Hermann, Mo. and many other professional and civic organizations. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. R. M. Ellis of Palmyra, Mo., and Mrs. A. A. Wahlbrink of St. Louis, Mo. and two nieces, Mrs. Robert Sternberger of Victoria, Texas and Mrs. Don Truscott of St. Louis, Mo. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Evangelical Church at Hermann, Mo. Burial was made in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery near High Hill, Missouri, where Masonic services were held.
