Note: May have mistakes Benton County Guide March 29, 1940, Pg. 8 OBITUARY Anna Meta Cordes Steffens Anna Meta Steffens, nee Cordes, was born January 11, 1854 at Cole Camp, Mo. She was married to Henry Steffens, June 22, 1876, who preceded her in death August 25, 1918. The deceased since her baptism in early infancy was a member of the Lutheran Church, being confirmed by Pastor Theo. Miessler, April 26, 1868. Having lived at Flora and Dunksburg, Mo., near Concordia for a number of years the deceased for the last seven years made her home in Higginsville with her daughter Mary, Mrs. Wm. Stockman. Since Christmas of 1939 she began to fail in health and gradually became worse until Tuesday, March 19th, 1940, when she departed this life reaching an age of 86 years, 2 months and 8 days. Those who survive to bemourn her death are three of her nine children, Mary, Mrs. Wm. Stockman, Henry and Claus Steffens of Higginsville, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Higginsville and burial was made in the Lutheran Cemetery at Flora, Mo., Pastor Wm. O. Schmidt officiating. rwbrauer@iland.net
