Cole Camp Courier, May 1991 Irene Marie Steffens Irene Marie Steffens of Cole Camp, died at 11:50 p.m. May 20 at the Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was 71. She was born Nov. 4, 1919 near Cole Camp, the daughter of Margaret Koeller and Claus Henry Steffens. She lived all of her life on a farm south of Cole Camp. Survivors include two sons, Jerry A. Wessel and Larry Steffens of Cole Camp; one brother, Elmer Steffens of Cole Camp; One sister Dora Payton of Cole Camp; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother. Irene belonged to the Mt. Hulda Lutheran Church where she was baptized Nov. 23, 1919 by Rev. E. Robert. She was confirmed April 17, 1932 by Rev. W. Petzoldt at Mt. Hulda. She was a member of the Mt. Hulda Ladies Aid. She had been a housekeeper and was self-employed. A prayer service for Irene Marie Steffens was conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22. Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Mt. Hulda Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Laugavitz officiating. The congregation sang "Lord Take My Hand and Lead Me" and "How Great Thou Art" as Sharon Steffens played the organ. Interment was in Mt. Hulda Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Dean Brauer, Carl Kullmann, Oscar Kreisel, Jr., Elroy Brauer, Albert E. Kreisel and Harry Lee Kreisel. Services were under direction of the Fox Funeral Home of Cole Camp. Memorials to the Mt. Hulda Ladies Aid have been suggested. rwbrauer@iland.net
