    3. May have mistakes Cole Camp Courier August 13, 1992 John W. Steffens John W. Steffens of Cole Camp, died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 2, 1992 at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia, at the age of 102. He was born on Nov. 28, 1889 at Cole Camp, the son of John and Katherine Lutjen Steffens. He grew up in Benton County and was married to Carrie Mueller on Oct. 16, 1916. Following their marriage they lived on a farm in Benton County until 1948, when they moved to Lincoln. They had one son, Herbert. John's wife Carrie preceded him in death in 1970. He then moved to Cole Camp. In October, 1991, he became a resident of Margene's Guest Home in Sedalia, where he was living at the time of his death. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln. He was also preceded by one son, Herbert Steffens, on June 21, 1984, and by one brother, Henry Steffens, on Dec. 4, 1959. John is survived by one daughter-in-law, Leona Steffens of Lincoln; one brother, Ernest Steffens of Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Cole Camp; several nephews and nieces; other relatives and friends. Funeral services for John W. Steffens were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln with the Rev. David Zirpel officiating. Pallbearers were Harold Steffens, Arnold Steffens, Forrest Brockman, Larry Eckhoff, Earl Meyer and Larry Eckhoff. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Davis-Miller Funeral Home of Lincoln. Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Building Fund or "Good News" radio broadcast.
