Bob, this was likely Joshua C. Ferguson, who is listed in the 1860 census as a Hotel Keeper in Cole Camp, then age 69, born Ky. There is an 1844 advertisement for "Ferguson House" in Cole Camp reproduced (poorly) on page 1196, Vol 3, White & Miles History of Benton County. He was probably the J. C. Ferguson whose estate was probated 1867. Homer F.
