O. Smith, Sabrina's husband. Now I can link J. O. Smith to his parents. After you told me who they were and they were the ones that I had figured were her parents from the 1880 Benton Co Mo census, I entered them into my database to make it more complete. I try to fill in blanks as often as possible in order to have it when someone comes along who is interested in it. Then I can share it with them as so many have shared with me over the years. I am sure that you have Sabrina's obit that is recorded in the Benton Co Mo histories, but for those who might be interested and not have access to them, I am copying it to this letter. I have all three copies of the Benton Co Mo history books and will do look-ups on particular persons (not just one surname such as Smith) for those of you interested. I will send them by email as time permits. Just let me know. I don't have notes on Sarah to indicate "why" I have her listed as "Sarah Rebecca Smith West" and neither did I know who her parents were. I supposed who they were, but didn't have the proof. I have done some correspondence in the past with some people on the WEST family, so perhaps that is where that part came from. I am glad to have it clear. It is always good to have things corrected so that those interested will have the correct info. I am including the notes that I have in my database on what info I had on both of John's families. Maybe it will help someone else out. Thank you again. Eddene ****************************************************** NOTES: Vol 2, page 106n, Benton Co Mo history book: <Died: John W. John Wesley Walthall married 1. Sarah Adeline Purnell, January 20, 1870, she died about 1880 as she is shown in the 1880 census but died shortly thereafter as John Wesley Walthall marries 2. Sarah Rebecca SMITH (not West) daughter of Robert Nicholas Smith and Amanda Frances Turner, Feb. 27, 1881, Both marriage dates and names were verified in the Benton Co. MO Marriage Books. John Wesley Walthall had five childlren with Sarah Adeline Purnell and six children with Sarah Rebecca Smith. This information was taken from his obituary printed in the History of Benton Co. Missouri, Vol. 2, page 106n and the 1880 census of Benton plus other family related information. I had no idea I would have a response so soon. I have the books of the Lafayette county cemeteries that Marty Brunetti of Odessa put together and find no Sophia Bredehoeft listed as buried in any of those cemeteries, (that does include the Holy Cross Cemetery at Emma) also did not find a listing of a funeral in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church book from Concordia. Is there any other information about the marriage, such as names of witnesses, and does it list a middle name for Jacob. Names of witnesses might include a name of some we know to be brothers of Jacob. At one time there was a family rumor that Grandpa Jacob had been married before he married Grandma Margaretha.

While coincidence is possible, I find no later records for them in Benton County, so this may have been your ancestor, as there were many connections between the Cole Camp and Concordia/Emma German communities. Perhaps Sophia died in Saline or Lafayette County soon after their marriage.

Showed Sophia as born 1847. 1870 Census shows Sophia Beckman there, listed as 22 years old. Could someone lookup records to verify the accuracy of LDS Family Search. I have a Jacob Bredehoft who was my grandfather and married Margaretha Wienberg at Emma, MO in 1875. Grandfather Jacob came from Germany in 1866 and very little is known about him until he married Margaretha. He was in Lafayette County on 1870 Census. It is possible he was in Benton county in 1873. He was a Lutheran so probably would have been married by a Lutheran minister. Help me if you can.

Can anyone tell me anything about a medal that would have been presented to a resident of Benton Co. MO that read--1876 "Proclaim Liberty Throughout The Land". The main body of the medal is round and has a engraved picture of the Liberty Bell. The patent date is May 1875. I have searched the internet and can't find anything.
