    3. Is it possible to find adoption records in Benton county for folks in the 19th century. My great grandfather John T. Johnson, is listed in the 1880 census of Union, Benton co.; as John T. Glenlock, (age 3, born in TX) orphaned child in the household of George W. & Misnire Johnson. In the 1910 census of Toppenish, Yakima, Washington, he is listed with his parents as an adopted son. I now understand that John was Osage. He and my great-grandmother, Cora Fitzpatrick, were only married a short time, but the did have two children. By the way, I believe that Misnire, wife of George W. Johnson, was nee Hobbs, dau. of Jacob and Rebecca Hobbs. Thanks. Christopher Barttels Dayton, WA

But although there were several Short families in the 1876 Benton Co. census, none list Rachael or above children. If Rachael died in Mo. after 1909, your best bet to learn her maiden name might be a Missouri death certificate for her or one of the Short children.

I have been told that Nancy Dodd, older sister to Cynthia Ann by James Dodds first marriage was nicknamed "Cynthia" and she married a Robinson, Robison, or Robertson. If true this would explain a picture stating: Cynthia Robertson, Sister to MIlton C. Dodd. I may have been chasing down marriages on the wrong great grand aunt of mine. Either way, the info is needed; so no time has wasted. I hope to be able to solve this soon. Shawn

Her obituary reprinted in Vol. 1, History of Benton County lists her as Cynthia Ann Darby (birthdate also listed as 18 March 1820).
