Also, 1860 census shows a daughter, Mary, age 8, who would have been born in 1852; 1870 census shows dau. Anna C. age 4, (b. 1866) and son Samuel 3 months (b. March 1870). I am a descendant of Samuel Jackson Dillon, brother of William T. Dillon. Do you know about William's Civil War service; he served in Co. K, 8th Mo. State Militia.

Posted on: Benton Co. Mo Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/Benton/923 Surname: McLerran ------------------------- I'm still trying to find anything I can on either Andrew Jackson McLerran or Thomas Hart Benton McLerran. I found a copy of Andrew Jackson McLerran's obituary a few days ago. It tells how he was born near Greenfield, MO (April 1844). The obituary doesn't mention if Andrew's family settled in Benton County later. When he was a young boy, Andrew's father left his wife and "three children" and went to California, and soon after, died. The three children mentioned are Andrew and his two sisters. The article doesn't mention Thomas Hart Benton McLerran, who was born in Missouri in 1842, and died in Chico, CA in May 1893. We've assumed Thomas was Andrew's brother since his tombstone next to Andrew's grave in California calls him "our brother", and we are in possession of his diary (which mentions Warsaw, Benton County.) Anyway, Andrew ran away from home and traveled to California when he was 12 years old (about 1856). He put himself through school and became a successful accountant in Chico, CA. When he died in August 1907, his sisters were living in Santa Maria in San Luis Obispo County, CA, and at Cove, Oregon. If any of this fits your information, please let me know. I'd also like to get a copy of your book on the McLerrans. Please let me know if that is possible. Thanks.
Deana, I feel weird answering a question concerning the Buckley's of Benton Co., MO, especially concerning Chambers' and his son Earl Buckley. In 1922 Claude Estes, my greatuncle, was hired by Chambers and Earl Buckley to murder Alfred. E. Lutman. I have some of the articles concerning this if your interested. I got them from the Benton County Enterprise microfilm. This was one of the biggest trials in Benton Co. e-mail me personally and I'll send you copies of the articles I have. There is also a photo showing 40 young men on their way to WWI which included Edwin Buckley. In my search I found that Melissa Buckley, wife of Chambers C Buckley, of Hastain, Benton County, Mo, was invited to go to France for the Mother's Pilgrimmage to go to the foreign cemeteries where their sons were buried. I am sure Edward Roy Buckley and Edwin Buckley are one and the same. I do NOT know if Charles Buckley was a misprint or if Chambers was Chambers Charles Buckley. I have tried to get info on Edwin/Edward from St Louis, but they have very little information because of the fire. Is there some localized place where I can find information on Benton County soldiers killed in action in WWI? Would it be the VFW? If so, who would I contact? Would appreciate any leads.
