Posted on: Benton Co. Mo Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/Benton/11074 Surname: Campbell ------------------------- I am seeking information on Elder James A Campbell. The following information came from "The Gospel Messanger" 12 Sept 1931 "Eld. James A. Campbell, son of Charles and Julia Campbell, was born March 15, 1853. He died June 25, 1931. He was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, and moved with his parents to Roanoke county, Virginia, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Eliza Wertz, who died on Sept. 4, 1880. To them three children were born. Nov. 16, 1882, he was united in marriage to Hester A. Deaton, who died June 20, 1930. To this union ten children were born. He moved with his family from Roanoke County, Virginia to Benton County, Missouri in 1890, where he lived until his death. Bro. Campbell was one of those men from whom little was heard. He was reserved in his manner, but when he spoke his words were wisely chosen. His entire life was was a continuous flow of Christian character. He united with the Church of the Brethren at the age of fifteen. He was elected to the deacon's office at the age of twenty. He faithfully served the church in this capacity for seventeen years. At the age of thirty-seven he was called to the ministry by the Turkey Creek church at Fristoe, Mo., and subsequently advanced to the eldership by the same church. Soon after his call to the ministry his associate ministers moved out of the community. The responsibility for the care of the church fell upon his shoulders...." James A. Campbell died on June 25, 1931 in Benton County Missouri

Posted on: Benton Co. Mo Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/Benton/11070 Surname: Failer, Faler, Byler, Biler, Rainwater ------------------------- Bob, your message is one I forwarded on to a cousin, Richard Failer. He has went at greater depth with exceptional insights. Within the Failer / Faler Cemetery you will find both spellings, yet the prominent spelling contains the "i". As Richard's name has remained with the "i" in it, our line dropped it in the early 1900's. In some documents in Benton County on back to Pennsylvania the spelling of Fahler is found also. Until I get to go back to Missouri, my research on Byler has been limited. I do know that the other spelling encountered on documents to this point is Biler; it all depended on whom was writing down the name. THANKS for your time & interest!!! If you need more info & help, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] ... But there again, Richard is a blessing to contact and be in touch with, too. many blessings, Jeannie
The index to Benton County probate files has been transcribed by Paul Weil and placed online at: http://www.tbcnet.com/~weilfamily/genealogy/probate/Benton_Probate_index.html A link has also been added on the "Misc Benton Co Records" page of Benton Co GenWeb site. (Please note that this is only an index, and Paul does not have access or copies of the actual probate files) Homer Ficken, Benton GenWeb
Hi Homer; I looked up Wm. Kays (Kayes) who has always been listed in later censuses in Fristoe Twp. and found him in Cole Twp. for the 1840 census, so I guess part of Cole became Fristoe Twp. He never moved off his 119+ acres which is listed as Twp. 40 N and range 21 W on the BLM records. The land office when he bought in 1844 (signature date) was in Springfield, but his son and daughter both bought land in the same twp. and range and the land office was in Warsaw. Hope this helps with the location of Fristoe Twp. records in 1840 census. (Signature date on the purchase of land by the son, Wm. Patterson Kays and Sarah Kays was 1859) Phyllis Pengilly

Two people did send me a picture of my ggrandparents that was in a Benton Co history book. (Thanks!!) My grandfather was Joseph Leslie Brown, married to Patsy Aldesarie Smith. His parents were Alexander & Martha Ann Upton. No info on Patsy's family other than her mother may have been named Minerva. Posted on: Benton Co. Mo Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/Benton/11061 Surname: FAILER, BYLER ------------------------- FAILER AND BYLER IN BENTON COUNTY. There is a FALER cemetery south of Cole Camp and near Edmonson and I was wondering if Faler and Failer could be the same name? Two of us are working on a history of the area and would like to tie the old families into this where possible. I was also wondering if FALER or FAILER could be German because here the name is pronounced with a long A, and I though possibly the name may have once been spelled Faeler, or Fäler. There were a bunch of Germans who settled in the area around the cemetery. As regards the Byler name, could this be the family that once owned a grist mill on in Morgan County near the Benton and Morgan County line? Here the name is pronounded BOILER, hence Boiler's Mill, although the spelling is known to have been Byler. If there are connections any information would be appreciated. Bob [email protected]
Lost it. Misplaced it. Trashed it .... or something. Please repost the names and contacts for the (3) Cole Camp Genealogy books. thanks so much Jo
