    2. Anderson
    3. We are planning on being in the Benton Co. area the end of this month and I was wondering about accommodations in the area. Can anyone help me? Also, do any of you do research either in Jefferson City (State Archives) or Columbia (State Historical Society/Ellis Library)? If so, would you please e-mail me privately ([email protected]) as I have some questions? Thanks for any help you can give me. -- Nancy A. - New Mexico Lost Ancestor site: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~unab22 Home site: http://home.att.net/~unab22

    1. [MOBENTON-L] "Gateway" Function
    2. The Gateway function for the Benton County List, that copies posts from the new Message Board to the list, has been turned off for the present at my request: Since the new system currently provides no identity or link back to the board, the replies in particular make no sense standing alone, and are difficult to trace back to the original message. This has been reported as a "bug" and hopefully the old method will be restored, at which time I will request reactivation of the gateway. Homer Ficken, Benton GenWeb and List admin.

Drennon who died 8/4/1961, published in issue of 8/10/1961. This does not of course mean he died in Cole Camp area. If you are able to visit Cole Camp, the Courier's are on film at their library. If not, contact the State Historical Soc's newspaper library: http://www.system.missouri.edu/shs/ Homer Ficken, Benton GenWeb

    1. [MOBENTON-L] John Alexander Ferguson b 1877 MO d 1949 CA
    2. Bob, I have no idea if this hooks into my family or not. Finding John's family has already been dragging on for about 15 months, we just had a very slight break in a family that looks like it could be a "maybe" in Greenville, Wayne County, MO with the father being John L., mother Nancy, brother Frank and sister Oranda Pearl. We knew John A had one brother named Frank and a sister that "had a name like" Bonda or Vonda Pearl. My father's name is Jack Lee and we have a bunch of Lees in the family so the father having a middle initial of L. is interesting too. So right now I am sniffing up this tree big time. Thanks for the hint here, will keep in the "future" kitty.

    1. [MOBENTON-L] Re: John Alexander Ferguson b 1877 MO>CA d 1949
    2. Correction (missed a page): The "Ferguson House" advertisement was 1859, not 1844. Also, land patents for property just south of Cole Camp indicate he came from Cooper County late 1850s.

    1. [MOBENTON-L] Re: John Alexander Ferguson b 1877 MO>CA d 1949
    2. Bob, this was likely Joshua C. Ferguson, who is listed in the 1860 census as a Hotel Keeper in Cole Camp, then age 69, born Ky. There is an 1844 advertisement for "Ferguson House" in Cole Camp reproduced (poorly) on page 1196, Vol 3, White & Miles History of Benton County. He was probably the J. C. Ferguson whose estate was probated 1867. Homer F.

    1. [MOBENTON-L] Re: John Alexander Ferguson b 1877 MO>CA d 1949
    2. Holly... I doubt that I have any informtion for you but as I am looking for a Ferguson family that once lived in Cole Camp I thought I might try this contact. The date you give for Alexander is 1877, which may be a bit late for what I am looking for, but here it is. Here in Cole Camp there is a street named Ferguson and I have not been able to find any local family by that name living here. I would assume it would have beein pre-Civil War, but it could have been later. If your Fergusons were associated with Cole Camp I would welcome this information. It would seem the family (name) were once of some significane to have a street named after them but in my digging into Cole Camp history I find nothing. Any information or help would be appreciated. Bob Oooooooo.

    1. [MOBENTON-L] Email Caution
    2. Lately I've received several emails with an attached file and the message: "Hi! How are you? I send you this file in order to have your advice See you later. Thanks" The subject line varies, but the attached file will have the same name. Delete same and do NOT download the attachment, as this is an email replicating virus currently running rampant. (Until now, the subject lines were meaningless, but the latest was titled "JohnsonReunionNo2" which suggests a genealogical connection, so thought I should post this warning) Homer Ficken, Benton GenWeb
