Jenkins, born in Nelson County, VA, married Antoinette Davis, born in Switzerland County, IN. They were wed in Effingham County, IL in 1869. They moved to Bates County in 1872 along with Antoinettes brothers and sister: William Davis, Oscar R. Davis, and Marie Belle/Bette Davis. I believe Antoinettes widowed mother also lived with them, her name being Sarah Davis born in Kentucky. John R. Jenkins was a successful business man and by 1900 was a Banker and he and Antoinette had two children, Burleigh and Mabel Jenkins. Burleigh died early on and Mabel was their only child by 1900. They lived on Havanna St. in Butler. Antoinettes other sister, Sarah Adaline Davis, who married Hiram Hogge/Hogue, lived in Butler for 4 years as a farmer. He and Sarah eventually moved to Labette County, Kansas in 1874. The children of Hiram and Addie Davis were: Hurley, Herbert,Marshall, Lulu/Lola, Nellie, Mollie, Hattie. John R. and Antoinette lived in Butler until the time of their death and are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler.
