Shelley - You might try contacting the Bates County Historical Society or the Bates County Genealogical Society and ask if someone might be able to do some footwork for you on Richard W. Cummins. Also, go over the probate information again for Richard W. Cummins. You might have overlooked some information. Sharyn Southern California Henry/Garrison/Stubblefield/Vanhoy
A while back there was a note about the old newspapers being thrown out due to a lack of space. I think they were at the library. Can anyone tell me whether the papers were rescued or not? Secondly, I am hunting for infomation regarding my ancestor, Richard W. Cummins, an Indian agent and a member of Missouri's first General Assembly. I can't determine where he was when he died, although there was some sketchy information in Bates County will records. Others in the family were in Bates County and I've found cemetery records. I can't believe there isn't more available on this guy. If anyone out there can lead me to a good source, I'd appreciate it.

Lucy, Since he wouldn't be listed on the l880 census, I would start with the l900 census, ordering a Soundex film for Mo. from your local FHC. Then since he was married by l908, if he was still in Mo., I would order the Soundex for l900. It is quite possible that he was still living a home with parents in l900. You do know about soundex census, I hope. These films are based on the last name and if you don't know his parents first name, you may have to go through the film until you find him listed. Then I would order the original film. Anyone at a Family History Library can help you. If you live near an Archieve Library that would be much faster and they are usually great on beginners or new-be's. I am a volunteer at our local library ( Branson) so am familar with getting people started on their searches. Dee Bouse
Hi Listers, I am trying to find information on my great-grandfather, William Wesley Morris. He was possibly born in Rockville, Bates County, MO about 1887. I have a copy of the marriage license for my great-grandparents. It says they married in Carter County on Christmas Day in 1908. It also says that he was over 21 and from Rockville. Any ideas on where to start? When did they begin keeping birth records in Bates County? Are there any online databases for Bates County? Any offline databases for Bates County? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Lucy

Posted on: Bates County Deeds Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/BatesDeed/9 Surname: Ralstin, Cunningham, Rausch ------------------------- I think my gg grandparents (George W. Ralstin and Kitty Polk Ralstin lived in or around Buler, Mo. sometime between the 1900 census and 1917 when I found them in California. In the 1900 census, George and Kitty were just northwest of this area up around Oscaloosa (sp?) Kansas. I think they may have been renting a farm in Kansas, but I'm hoping there are some land records for them around Butler. I have a signiture book of George and Kitty's daughter in law that has George and Kitty both signing and dating their poetry and put Butler, Mo. as where they were living or where they were that day. I don't know which. Any help is appreciated. George's parents were Young James Ralstin and Elizabeth (Goudy)and they lived in Fulton, Co., Indiana from 1838 until their deaths in the 1870s. Kitty (Polk) Ralstin's parents were William Tyler Polk and Mary Robbins. Thanks, Bill Miller
I'm hunting for info on G.A (or W.) Hancock and Jane Hunter, who may have moved from Bates Co. to Fannin Co. TX in 1859. If anyone has access to an 1850 census, I'd appreciate a look up. I've found both Hunters and Hancocks in the Census Indexes for Bates Co., Lone Oak Twp., but not for the correct year. Thanks in advance for any help. Jerri eoff sudderth

Now all my data's gone and I long for yesterday-ay-ay-ay. Yesterday, The need for back-ups seemed so far away. Does anyone have any marriage records that show FORBES or BAYLES (Bayless or Bayliss) marriages 1860's to 1880's? If that is a tall request, I can narrow it down. Appreciate any help. Have a marriage CD that includes MO, but doesn't include Bates Co. It only has one MO county of any interest to me and I have the marriage books for that one (Cass Co.). Thanks, Dot
Last week my husband, his cousin and I were in Butler, Bates Co., MO and were searching for more info about the family of Susannah Bradshaw Cluck Manning. My husband's g grandparents are Jacob B. and Sarah Elizabeth Bradshaw Cluck. Jacob and Sarah Elizabeth are buried in Rockville, MO cemetery along with mother of Sarah and Susannah, Milly Bledsoe Bradshaw. We have never been able to find out what Cluck was the first husband of Susannah, do not think that it is a brother of Jacob. When we were in Butler we picked up copies of the probate records in which 5 Manning children are mentioned. Susannah had married Jasper Manning after the unknown Cluck. Jasper, Susannah and one Cluck child died in 1871 in some kind of epidmic, many calls from doctor on probate records for different amounts of patients in each visit. On one probate record W. R. Cluck was made Guardian along with J. B. Cluck (would be Jacob) and D. W. Edwards. This was for the child Isaac N. Manning. William Bradshaw, brother of Sarah and Susannah, was named on some of the others. It states that W. R. Cluck is living in that county, the date on that court record is the 13th day of July, 1885, another date 1886. Is there anyone who might know who this W. R. Cluck is?? We think that he may connect to first husband of Susannah. Marguerette Powell
On January 2, 2000 there was a query submitted to a Cynthia, that was searching for the above surnames. I am also searching for those surnames in Bates Co. Does any one have her query or her email address? Cynthia, if you read this, I have considerable info on the Bear line and some on the Farmer line. Can anyone help me? Betty
I would appreciate any help with information about this family from the 1870 census Bates Co. MO, p. 26, Charlotte Twp., Butler P. O. Aaron BAYLES, 39, TN Harriet 36, IL Lewis 11, MO Jane 3, MO Rosetta 6/12, MO FORBES, Fannie (?) 13, KS FORBES, Nancy 11, KS FORBES, James 7, KS I believe that Harriet was Elizabeth Harriet (ALEXANDER) FORBES and when her husband, Reuben Forbes died perhaps early 1860's in Bourbon Co. KS, she married Bayles. The above household may be "his, hers, and their" children. This census shows them living among Harriet's Forbes brothers-in-law. There is also a Dillon Bayles 24, born MO, living next to Aaron. He also has a wife and 2 children, the youngest one born in KS. Jane Bayles age 15, born MO, and Lydia Bayles, age 8, born MO, lived on the other side of Aaron Bayles, with Robert and Sarah Jones. My questions are: Does anyone on this mail list research the BAYLES or FORBES families?? Has the census of 1880 for this county been published in book form or does anyone have an index? Thanks very much. Dot
