I would write the library there and send a SASE for a reply. They have been really good about answering. Ask this question. Though I'm dying to go to Bates, I've never been there. Maybe someone who has could tell you more. Three generations of my family were there in the 1800's in Pleasant Gap. Susan Buckley Houston, Texas

    1. HELP--WALNUT GROVE & JOHNSTOWN CEMETERY
    2. I've been looking for my gggrandparents Winfield & Corinna Hurt's resting place. I found them listed in a book "Bates County Missouri Cemeteries, 1980 by E. Joyce Christiansen as being in Walnut Grove Cemetery north of Amsterdam, but my relatives can't find their stones there. Also the book states that Martha J., Robert B., C.O., Martha A. and Gurfie are in Johnstown Cemetery, but my relatives found them in Walnut Grove when searching for Winfield & Corinna. So my question is this....Has there been an update to this book? OR Does anyone know who holds the plot records of these cemeteries so I can contact them and try to find out for sure whether Winfield & Corrina are in Walnut Grove Cemetery or someplace else. Thanks for everyone's time.....Lisa Moore

    3. I am seeking information on the family of Edward Arlington and Ida Jane (White) Smith. Edward was born on 21 March 1873 to Zephaniah and Sarah Jane (Ramshire) Smith and died on 16 December 1935. Ida Jane was born in Butler, MO to my gr-grandparents William Martin and Sarah Ann Beavers on 27 November 1875 and died on 30 May 1978. They were married on 24 Feb. 1897 and are both buried in Smith Cemetery in Bates Co., MO. They were the parents of Donna Ninna Smith who marred William Henry Tharp; Jessee Maud; William Henry Smith who married Ruth Chenoweth; Irene Goldie Smith ( ); Nellie May Smith who married Clifford Hubbard; Roy Edward Smith who married Jennie Louise Haynes; Mary Ida Smith who married Raymond Willie Couch; and Vivian Vesha Smith who married Lawrence E.
