List readers, I am working on loading about 30 pictures of the CCC camp days of Roaring River. More on this later. To those of you who don't understand and who are unsubscribing because of a Spammer, please read. I want to share with you that Malware comes from clicking on bad links - and from going to bad websites to view pages with a questionable reputation. You are the one who gets it - and it comes from what you do - not from what someone did to you. You are not helpless to the situation and you can stop this from happening by taking precautions and by paying attention. I want to share with you that I use Chrome as a browser and also Firefox. However, most of the time for my web browsing I use Chrome, because the browser warns you if you are about to go on a web site with a bad reputation. The WOT add in reports the trustworthiness of a web site. I like that because I don't always know what is a good or a bad web site. Malware does not come from sites like Rootsweb has or from being on a list mail service like we have. Generally speaking it comes from prom, game, and joke sites - but not always. Sometimes it comes from sites that want to sell you something - like a place that wants to clean your computer. All of us - in this day and age should be using a Malware cleaner - and there are some good free programs out there. I use a free program called Malwarebytes in addition to a spyware and a virus program, and have had it for several years now. It is important to know that Malwarebytes products have a proven record of protecting computers by completely removing all forms of malware, including viruses, Trojans, spyware, adware, and also rootkits. I noticed that the website for Malwarebytes reads that when it comes to the safety of your computer, Malwarebytes provides the ultimate in protection from the cutting edge of technology! Okay, that sounds like hype - but it is a good program and I like the idea that it is free. Larry Wilson says that the pay version is very reasonable and has some features that the free version doesn't have. He says it is well worth the investment. Malware is a tricky thing, because it is not Spyware and is not a virus and so when you think your Norton or whatever is cleaning your computer, it might not be, because you might have a program that probably does not cover Malware. David Weston's computer was sending me Spam and so after a few messages I wrote and ask him to download a malware program and told him the problem. The next day he said that he cleaned several hundred pieces of junk - bad stuff from his computer and even found some other problems when he did a malware clean. So - it can happen to any of us - and generally we don't know it is going on until someone tells us. When a Spammer gets into your computer with a link then he can then send his crappy stuff in your name from your email box without you knowing it. If you click on it he gets a few pennies a click so if he can plant a link on a list mail and get it on the web he's hoping that in the future people will click - if for no other reason to see what he is selling. Don't you ever wonder what kind of person would think that being dishonest is the right way to earn a honest living? What a twisted mind that person must have. I see that on Facebook that hackers are doing the same thing - they get into someone's page and send Spam in the form of chat or a message. They promise something that you can get if you answer - sometimes the trying out of a new Dell laptop. And I hear then when you go to the website - you will have to buy a lot of their products to be eligible for the try out. If you buy the products or click on the link then they take your e-mail address and start filling your mailbox with Spam. And - by the way - you don't qualify for the new computer it was given to someone else just yesterday. What I want to know is when did dishonesty became an okay way to do business in America? They do it on Twitter, too, but by sending messages that a bad picture of you is on the web and that people are talking about you. And then they send a link for you to click on so that you can go to their page - and buy their products. It is a dishonest way of earning a living - and in my opinion takes a stupid person to behave so badly, but then no one ask for my opinion, did they? Oh, yes, I must say that I love the ones that are written in a foreign language like Chinese. You guessed it - I have almost worn out my delete button by punching so much! I am sorry this has bad stuff has happened to some of our readers and so I keep warning you and talking to you about this issue - hoping to combat it in the future. I hope by making you more aware of the issue that we can continue to enjoy our list mail like we have in the past. Please hang in there with us and put all that stinky Spam in your trash can WITHOUT OPENING IT. Hey, the skunk who sends this stuff is too ignorant to know that the people in Barry County we are smarter than he is. Maybe we should tell him that we only buy from reputable vendors and do not appreciate his dishonest tactics. Donna Cooper
