Edward Greenberry Sooter Edward/Ned was born in 1812, probably in Humphrey's County TN and died prior to Dec 4, 1848 (estate papers) in Barry County, MO. He married Martha Fly and they had eight sons. 1840 census E.G Suitor is in Barry County MO. In 1850 Barry County census is Martha Suter age 43 born TN, Asher age 18 born TN, William age 14 born AR, Martin age 13 born AR, Greenberry age 11 born AR, Elisha age 10 born AR, Eli age 6 born AR, Andrew age 4 born MO, Edward age 2 born MO, Mary Parmer (Palmer) age 12 born AR. Mary was the daughter of Sally Sooter Palmer, Sally was the sister of Edward. Family records list birth dates as follows: Asher Fly born 15 June 1833, William Leonard born 7 July 1835, Martin born 24 August 1837, Greenberry born 13 June 1839, Elisha Henry born 22 Jan 1841, Eli Brown born 30 November 1843, Andrew S born 23 October 1845, Edward Perkins born 15 October 1849. Note: Many people who do wishful thinking genealogy want Greenberry listed above to be a Jr so they list him as Edward Greenberry Jr. Some have even gone so far as to combine two brothers into Edward Greenberry Jr Perkins Sooter. He was just plain Greenberry and all census and marriage records support this. Edward Perkins is listed in the 1870/1880 Benton County AR census as Perkins Sooter. Edward Greenberry is often referred to as Rev. Sooter and must have been an ordained minister since he preformed several marriages in Barry County. Family stories all mention his strong religious faith. A descendent of Mary Palmer states that Mary told the family that Edward Greenberry and his brother Greenberry went to cut down a bee tree and it did not fall in the expected direction. It fell on Edward and penned him under the tree. Mary related that even as he lay there badly injured he was still praising God as was his brother Greenberry. Edward died as a result of his injuries. ----- Original Message ----- From: <JoJoPM@aol.com> To: <mobarry@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 29, 2007 3:15 PM Subject: Re: [MOBARRY] Edward Marion Sooter >I have a William Leonard Sooter born in 1835 and married Margaret Russell. > Do you know anything about this couple? > > Jo > > > > ************************************** See what's new at > http://www.aol.com > Please tell us about your Barry county ancestors.
