I am a member of the crowd of silent readers that are in awe of all the remarkable work that has been done by this group on Barry County researchers. Without you and your contributions my research would be incredibly stymied. Donna, in your signature line you ask about information regarding Barry County ancestors. My Barry County ancestors include the following surnames: Betterton, Pannell, Whittington, and Zinn. These families lived in Barry County starting around 1850. A majority of them left around 1910. My great-great grandparents were George Edward Betterton and Nancy Angelina (Zinn) Betterton. From what I can determine, this couple died young and left two orphaned daughters; Viva and Myrtle. I can not document either of their deaths. I have a lead on information that George Edward Betterton died between 4 May 1898 and 7 Jun 1899 in a train wreck. Is there any information about this train wreck available? I would think something like this would have been written about in the newspapers. The Haddock Family website has done a fabulous job of transcribing personal interests stories in newspapers during this time and nothing is found. I would love to hear from anyone connected to these families. I would also be interested in information that could possibly help me document the train wreck that killed George Edward Betterton.
