I lived near Gainesville (Ozark Co) from 1955 to 1958. I remember going to Purdy to pick strawberrys when school was out for the summer. It was the first time I got paid for working!!! Other times were for free - cleaning chickens and canning tomatoes and peaches - also corn detasseling. To this day, I will not buy a live chicken!!! When you clean over 200 chickens for freezing (my family sold some of them) in less than 3 days - you get burnt out. We picked blackberries in season and always had a gun and a dog with us to keep the snakes at bay. This is when I learned to shoot accurately - can still fire a gun with ease - and I was a better shot at pheasants than my ex. Nancy (Whittington) Moreland
