    1. [MOBARRY] 'Black' school photo?

    3. I found a photo at the wonderful Barry Co. site of an old schoolhouse from when schools were segregated. However, the black school was in transit being moved to a new location. Does anyone have a photo of the school in its original location to share? I simply want to draw it. I'm curious if there are other photos. I'm a retired art teacher so it's all sorta an interest of mine. Thanks for any help. Sunshine to ya! Deb (Shipman) Rowe Kansas City metro

    3. To my knowledge Black school wasn't segregated and probably named after a last name of Black as there were families in Barry Co whose last names were Black. According to information told to me, the original site was on what became the Charley Edmonson property on Flat Creek. In 1909 it was B.J. Black. On this site there is a 1909 Atlas (Plat) Map, in Township 23 N. Range 27 W Sections 15 and 16, there is a school that I believe is the Black School. It appears in Section 16. Across the road in Section 15 is a B.J. Black. In 1909 I think it is possible the school house setting in Section 16 is the Black School's 2d location with Black School's 1st location being across the road in Section 15 and possibly on B.J. Black's land. How Black School's 3d location is South of Cassville, Barry Co, Mo at the Barry Co. Museum. Check it out at this link and see what you think: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/1909Plat/T23nR27w-t-r.jpg Darla Ball Marbut ----- Original Message ----- From: "Deb Rowe" <kcwordweaver@yahoo.com> To: <MOBARRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2008 10:58 AM Subject: [MOBARRY] 'Black' school photo? >I found a photo at the wonderful Barry Co. site of an old schoolhouse from >when schools were segregated.
