There were at least two different lines with the Black surname in Barry County and the area. My line descended from Joseph Black and Nancy Nichols. The had the following 8 children all born between 1827 and 1843. Mary Polly Ann Black m Joseph Carr Catherine Emaline Black m John Houston Crawford (my ggg grandparents) George Washington Black m Elizabeth Presely Joseph Calloway Black m Ellen Frances Long Lucinda J. Black m John B. Millis Francis A. Black Robert Sneed Black m Malinda "Lindy" Pannell John Toliver Black m Josephine Atkisson All of these children married and stayed in Barry County with the exception of George W. Black. He moved to Washington County, AR by the 1880 census. I have a picture of these siblings taken in their later years. Many of their descendants lived in Barry and surrounding counties, too. Hi All: During the late 40's and early 50's there was a man named Fred Black. He was president of the Barry County Bank. I banked at his bank for several years. I knew there were several families in Barry County with the last name of Black. I hope this sheds a little light on the subject. The original school, which was a log structure, sat closer to the creek out Y Highway. After it burned down the new school was built at a different location across Y. The school has been moved now to the museum. I have a photo of the school as it sat before we moved the roof and moved the school. If you would like a copy of that photo please let me know.
